Violent Spirits, are a type of ghost, they are the most dangerous type, as they are motivated by cruelty rather than vengeance or attention seeking.

Hook-Man

Jacob Karns: an example of a Violent spirit.

Characteristics

Unlike Vengeful Spirits, who are the ghosts of those who have some wrong done to them in their life, Violent spirits are usually the ghosts of evil or cruel people (or at least had something wrong with them), who in their lives brought pain and suffering to others, and in their deaths continue to do so.

Due to this Violent spirits are normally among the strongest type of ghosts, and possess great powers.

Season 1

The Ghost of Jacob Karns, the Hook man, who in his life murdered and mutilated 13 prostitutes in rage continued after his death, reappearing when able to feed of repressed emotions, and continue his killings. He was also quite a powerful ghost, able to walk on holy ground, something most other ghosts can't do. He was dispatched when Sam and Dean salt and burned his body, and then melted the silver hook he had used in his murders.

The next encountered Violent Spirit was Dr Ellicott. In his life he had practiced his own barbaric experiments on his patients to try and prove his theory that making them angry would help them. This however led to them rebelling and killing him. His Ghost continued to haunt the Asylum, doing the same thing to whoever entered, including Sam. He was dispatched by Dean Winchester when he salted and burned his body.

Melanie Merchant, a serial killer, in her death haunted her adopted family's portrait and would kill the owners of it at night. She was dispatched when Dean burned the last of her hair, which had been used to make her doll.

Season 2

Dr H H Holmes, America's first serial killer, who in life killed and tortured dozens of women, in death began haunting the apartment building that was built on the site where he was hanged. His spirit continued to attack women, taking them to a secret room where he tortured them before killing them. He was trapped in a ring of salt and sealed up in his secret room for all eternity.

Nurse Glockner, who in her life, would kill any patients who entered her ward, and was herself killed by the angry rioting prisoners. Freed after her old wing was reopened, and continued to kill the prisoners. She was dispatched by Sam and Dean when they burned her bones.

Season 3

Freeman Daggett in his life was lonely and paranoid, so took corpses back to his house, and dressed them to celebrate his birthday, February 29th, then committed suicide. His Ghost haunted the house, every February the 29th taking another victim and killing them, trapping their spirit in the house with him forever. He was defeated when Sam and Dean convinced his latest victim to turn on him, destroying the ghost.

Season 4

P.T. Sandover, in his life a total workaholic. In his death, he made workers who he considered slackers into extreme workaholics to the point that they committed suicide when they made a mistake or error. He was dispatched by Sam and Dean when they burned his gloves, which were holding him to the earth.

Season 5

The Ghost Orphans, in their lives killed the son of their caretaker Leticia Gore. She killed them in a fit of rage after learning what they had done. Their spirits haunted the site of their deaths, but were kept under control by Leticia's own ghost until they were freed when she was put to rest. They turned on the guests of the first Supernatural Convention, managing to kill one man. They were dispatched when Damian and Barns burned their bones.

Season 7

Angry psychic Jimmy Tomorrow summoned and bound the spirit of Margaret Fox who, although bound, according to Jimmy agreed with him, and went on to kill fake psychics. She also took joy out of killing. She was dispatched when Sam Winchester burned her bones.

Whitman Van Ness, after losing his family's fortune turned evil and killed his wife, as well as several prostitutes. He framed handy man Dexter for the murders. His ghost continued to haunt the house, feeding off the energy of the ghosts. Whiteham continued to kill anyone who entered the house, and trap their ghosts in their as well, so he could continue to feed. While they rotted away into nothing, he remained strong. He was dispatched when Sam and Dean burned his body.
