How exactly can you kill god and the darkness?

If they are beings made of endless energy, how can they die? Sure, you can kill physical forms but presumably not their souls. And back in season 11 I think is when they had amara try to kill chuck and dean try to kill amara but im confused, where would they go in death? Would they just become nothing aka enter the empty?
