I have been thinking that what purpose Souls have in Supernatural Universe. A lot of speculation in this text based on facts we learned from Supernatural episodes.
Two main things:
1) Did God create Souls/humanity to get more power and use it to destroy Darkness someday ?
2) Did Darkness create that "zombie-ilness" to get human souls to make him stronger ?
What you think ? Like Death told, souls are pure energy. God wasn't strong enough even with Archangels to destroy Darkness, only lock him away.
Castiel as celestial being became much stronger when he used power of purgatory souls inside him, was able to kill archangel Ralphael just by snapping his fingers and he also effortlessly killed countless number of other angels.
Maybe humanity was God's endgame to destroy Darkness some day? He surely needed a lot of souls to do it in future. Clearly God knew that even when Darkness was "physically" binded, it was able to corrupt world via Mark of Cain and even communicate with at least one human (Sister Agnes, writer of Book of the Damned). Also Death hinted that "Soul is stronger than you know. And more valuable than you can imagine", meaning (IMO) that souls had bigger purpose.
When Crowley gave Castiel 50 000 souls to begin war with Ralphael, it seems power of souls disappear after that when he sent once Ralphael away from heaven with power of souls (that worked once). If that is correct, maybe souls disappear after using their power in that scale ? Deities/Pagan-Gods were much stronger in past when people sacrificed souls for them, but as we know, that power doesn't abide. They got weaker when people didn't sacrifice souls for them so much anymore.
Mayby that's why God wasn't anymore ready to use souls to destroy Darkness (he got too attached to his "children") ?
If Archangels knew God's plan use Souls/Humanity to destroy Darkness, maybe that was the reason why he disappeared ? Maybe he was ashamed, because he wasn't ready anymore to do it, what he originally planned ?
| Now when Darkness is free, I bet he is able use souls too to get stronger himself. Maybe those infected "zombies" were Darkness way to get their souls to make himself stronger?. After all, after some time after infection, they did die. |
