I know, I know, many of us are still burned by the last Supernatural spin-off attempt but since the producers of the show, the CW president and Kripke himself are still brainstormingideas to see if they manage to get their second attempt done just right, I thought it might be a good moment for us loyal and dedicated Supernatural fans to brainstorm ourselves over what kind of spin-off topic we would at least consider watching. After all, if there is a major fanbase the CW takes notice in a big way is the one for Supernatural, as our consistent ratings have been the gasoline that has kept the impala running for the nearly a decade. They don't want to loose us which is why they want a spin-off. Some may find that attempt despicable but since there is a high chance it's gonna happen then it might as well be done right and we might as well show the producers what we would really want to watch that would be set in that universe we have come to love. But first we need to gather and agree on what we would be willing to watch, which I why I am starting this blog post and decided to share my own top ten list. So have a look at it and as Baldur said in Hammer of the Gods "If anyone has any bright ideas, speak up. This is a safe room."
1. A Samuel Colt spin-off set during the Old West if it would have to be particularly hunting-oriented, and with proper answers towards the Colt’s limitations.
2. A Gabriel prequel show during his time as a Norse god pretender, with Thor’s hammer from season 8 and many other Pagans like Kali showing up as a must, along with further explorations of their supernatural roles.
3. A Charlie and Dorothy spin-off during their magical adventures in Oz and further exploration of the Fairies.
4. A Crowley miniseries dedicated to show how he consolidated his power as King of Hell during the 1 year gap between season 5 and 6.
5. A Men of Letters spin-off set during World War II as they are allies of the Judah Initiative and fight the Thule necromancer society.
6. A Bobby and Ruffus mini-series from back in the old days when they were long-term hunting partners and end with the emotional conclusion at Omaha.
7. A mini-series featuring Bella Talbot a couple years before she meet the Winchesters as she acquires rare supernatural artifacts in order to sell them (mini-series because her Walking Dead schedule may be tight but she was a great badass in season 3 so I would totally watch her again in the Supernatural universe)
8. A mini-series set in biblical times to show on-screen the origin story of Cain and the subsequent creation of the other Knights of Hell.
9. A prequel show staring the Campbells and their big hunts featuring more man-power than usual. Essentially a many hunters against many monsters clashing show in carefully coordinated stunt scenes.
10. A mini-series with Castiel as the central character, filling the one-year gap between season 5-6 and that stage of the angel war.
List for spin-offs with central characters we have never seen before (Not yet finished)
1. Supernatural: War on the Alphas= Set in the time frame between late season 6 and early season 9 and with more compact seasons of (at least initially) no more than 13 episodes. The central character would be a member of the monster specie closest to extinction, a phoenix. Since according to the Supernatural: The Official Companion Season 6 Phoenix-kind have been on the run from Eve and other monsters for thousands of years as they have tried to hunt them to extinction because of the fact their ashes can be used to destroy the Mother of All Monsters, this Phoenix would have no love for his monster cousins and unlike the remaining few members of their specie, he decided to take the fight to what’s left of the monster’s chain of command after Eve’s death in late season 6, more specifically, the remaining Alphas.
Aiding him on this war to pull out the primordial roots of monster-kind would be Cuthbert Sinclair, former Master of Spells from the Men of Letters, who always urged his organization to put their minds and mystical resources to declaring war on mighty evils of the Supernatural kind. With Sinclair granting the phoenix direction and magical objects to increase his odds of victory, the Phoenix starts hunting down monsters close to their Alphas to gather intel, saving people in the process even though that may not be his main goal. Then once the Alpha Big Bad of the season has been specified, the Phoenix goes on twarting plans from said Alpha until their final, epic confrontation.
In the second season there could be a new character helping the Phoenix in his crusade; a character that would also be supernaturally strong but that would also lack love for Purgatory natives: an Amazon warrior and one who has been banished from her tribe at that. After said Amazon could have been wandering without purpose for a long time, she could have been contacted by the goddess that empowered her tribe, Harmonia, and tell her that she will give her chance to redeem herself in the eyes of the tribe: by joining the crusade to slay the mighty Alphas (and eliminate some of the major competition with the Pagans). And so the Phoenix and the Amazon band together and continue against the next Alpha Big Bad.
The third season could deal with a more magical Alpha, like the Alpha Shtriga or the Alpha Djinn and so Sinclair would be much more involved in that season with his own spellcasting until the trio defeat him in the season finale. In the 4th season premier, there could be a turn around in which the team of Alpha hunters become the pre-emptive targets of the Alpha Dragon and his remaining descendants. Shortly before being forced to retreat to Sinclair's own magical bunker to catch their breath, they learn that libraries are being attacked and that always one room with a few old books are the targets of arson. After checking the inventory of all those rooms in separate libraries, they learn that they have one thing in common: they all possessed a rare copy of a book from the 14th century that talked about dragons.
Soon enough, the team realizes that they must be burning the books to hide a major weakness of dragon-kind so they head out and fight their way until they get their hands on one copy and return to their safe haven. They learn from the book that that the remaining 5 swords forged in dragon's blood in the world are not powerful enough to kill the Alpha Dragon; that there was only 1 blade that was designed specifically to slay him and anything weaker than him, which was said to have been empowered by the Archangel Gabriel. The blade was used by a great Hunter/Knight of the Kingdom of England to slaughter countless dragons across Europe, leading to their near-extinction. But in his final battle the hunter/knight was killed by the Alpha himself and fearing the weapon that could kill him and had diminish the numbers of his kind, had it destroyed. And that is when Sinclair reveals that the hunter/knight was his ancestor and one of the elite hunters that was ever considered worthy by the Men of Letters, only he never knew how he had died until then.
So, in order to aquire the one-weapon designed to kill the Alpha Dragon, Sinclair gets the necessary ingredients in his vast, private collection that would allow him to make a time traveling blood spell taught to Men of Letters (the one Henry Winchester used to get to the future) only that he altered it so they travel to the past instead. Then, the Phoenix hunter, the Amazon warrior and the Master of spells go back in time, team up with the legendary dragon hunter and ensure they could take the empowered blade to the future with them. As soon as the dragon learns of this monumental threat to his monster specie, the Alpha ordered all of the remaining dragons (which aren't many) to come to his side for strength in numbers. And then, the two sides clash in the most epic season finale yet that culminates in the final extinction of the dragon specie.
The season 5 would be the last season and the main Big Bad would be the notorious Alpha Vampire who hasn't showed since the second to last episode of Supernatural season 7 and that teamed up with the Alpha Werewolf and the Alpha Skinwalker. When the team decides the paranoid Alphas are too cautious and well defended for a full frontal assault, they decide their best bet will be an inside man from all three monster circles so they recruit the help of Benny (before he returns to Purgatory in late season 8), Lucky, the Skinwalker from season 6 and Garth now that he is a Werewolf.
While they work undercover to facilitate the team's infiltration to the inner parts of the mansion, several Phoenixes seek out the central Phoenix character, saying they have been inspired by his stance against the Alphas and the monsters who have been hunting them for thousands of years and want to join him on that final showdown against the final 3 Alphas (the other Alphas from the remaining monster species would have been killed in season six by Crowley, like the Alpha Shapeshifter, and by Castiel, when he and his Angelic faction went nuke on the King of Hell's monster prison).
And so, once the monster spies create the divertion that would allow the team to infiltrate the mansion, all Hell (sorry, Purgatory) breaks loose in the decisive battle that would follow. And then, at long last, the primordial monsters would be slain and fulill Sam's season 4 stated dream of going to the root of monster-kind and cutting the head off the snake.
Afterwards, with the all the Alphas dead and a united monster front broken, their mission is completed and the team splits up. Sinclair goes back to expanding his collection of Supernatural stuff but now feeling that his life is more fulfilled as he completed his long-time ambition.
The Amazon warrior is allowed to return to her Tribe, where she is praised as one of the greatest Amazons in history and sets out to abolish the tradition to kill their fathers.
Garth goes back to his wife, who ends up loving him even more since now that he helped defeat the Alpha werewolf, there may be a chance for werewolf-kind to truly start coexisting with humans with the Old Order dismanteled.
Benny returns to mind his own buisness until Dean calls him for help to rescue Sam in Purgatory. Afterwards, we know what happens but when he choose to hold the line and give Sam time to escape, at least he will feel like he helped squash one of humanity's oldest plagues and will believe that with the achivement done, his extra time on Earth was up and it was well spent.
Lucky is paid a large sum of money by Sinclair for his help and uses the money to pay the necessary studies to become a veterinarian that specializes on dogs, where his skinwalker form gives him a calming presence on the pets and he one day he looks around and feel things have definitely progressed since he used to be a homeless guy.
And the Phoenix hunter that lead the war effort against the Alphas is unanimously named the Leader of the remaining few members of the Phoenix specie. And they look towards their veteran, to the one who rallied them together, and who lead them to victory with hope in their eyes as the constantly hunted Phoenix specie finally has a chance to build a bright future for itself.
Anyone agrees with me on at least 1 topic or may have managed to come up with some other potentially great idea? If so feel free to share it. And finally, I officially give my permission to anyone that wants to copy paste this blog post in order to spread the word on this topic and encourage productive conversations in the fandom.
So, let's begin with the discussion, shall we?
