Supernatural changes its opening credits each season, unlike many other series. Some episodes in each season will have unique, thematic title cards.

Season 1

Season1TitleCard

The first season's title card was fairly simple, the word "Supernatural" zoomed in and then out of the screen. It mimics the jerky movements of Supernatural's ghost's flickering. An alternative, but not used title sequence was produced and published on the Season 1 DVD as a special feature.

Season 2

Season2

This title card features the word "Supernatural" appearing out of bursting flames with the letter "A" in the form of a pentagram, a key component of a Devil's Trap. The fire may allude to Hell, due to increased demonic activity in this season, or the manner of Mary Winchester's and Jessica Moore 's deaths.

Season 3

Season3

A pair of skeletal of ghostly hands appear followed by the Key of Solomon symbol appears followed by "Supernatural" amidst what look like thunderclouds, or more likely, a demonic storm that reflected the opening of the Devil's Gate in the season 2 finale, or the demon horde Lilith sent in Jus in Bello.

A Very Supernatural Christmas

308AVerySupernaturalChristmas

This episode's title card is preceded by a version of the old CBS Special Presentation Indent. Sleigh bells are heard and a Christmas ornament explodes on the screen to reveal the episode's title.

Season 4

Season4

A bunch of presumably angel wings flap followed by the Title. A sound of a high-pitched scream is later added in the second episode. The usual animalistic growl is then heard before the title card fades to black.

Monster Movie

This episode's title card was designed to fit the look of the old school black and white films from the early to mid-1900s.

The Monster at the End of This Book

The title card of The Monster at the End of This Book featured the artwork from the covers of the "Supernatural" books written by Chuck Shurley.

Season 5

Season5

As the other seasons, "Supernatural" appears on the screen, but this time with a drop of blood dispersing in the background, accompanied by the sound of a heart beat, angels whispering, and a high pitch sound. All these most likely allude to demon blood, which was Sam's link to his powers, or the bloodline which links the Winchester brothers to their respective archangels, or even the use of blood on the angel banishing sigil.

Changing Channels

In this episode, the Supernatural Sitcom Theme Song plays over opening credits which mimic those of 80s sitcom like Full House. The opening sequence is light, humorous and in full contrast to the usual title cards the series uses.

Season 6

Season6TitleCard

A pane of glass shatters, revealing the title "Supernatural". It likely references Sam's shattered mind, or the Wall, ultimately broken, to protect him.

Clap Your Hands If You Believe

In this episode, the opening credits to the episode are an homage to the 1990s series The X-Files, using similar music and images. The final text "The Truth is in There" is a twist on the X-Files catchphrase "The Truth Is Out There". The sequence bears a few similarities to the unused title sequences found as an Easter egg on the season one DVDs.

Frontierland

618Frontierland

The opening titles this episode are a homage to the 1960s Western series Bonanza. The music played during the credits is somewhat similar to Ennio Morricone's "The Ecstasy of Gold," a piece he wrote for the Clint Eastwood movie "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

Season 7

Season7titlecard

Black text on a white background. The word "Supernatural" appears out of thick black explosion of mist and is dripping black fluid like ectoplasm or ink, probably Leviathan blood.

Season Seven, Time for a Wedding!

A wedding cake explodes, morphing into the goo of the Season 7 titles. The Bride and Groom figurine falls in front of the screen before the Supernatural logo flies towards the screen.

Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie

As Sam is attacked by evil clowns, the titles explode in out of rainbow colored sparkly goo.

Season 8

S8Titlecard

Gold text on a background of glyphs similar to the ones on The Word of God. The "E" and the two "A"'s in the title "Supernatural" briefly turn into glyphs themselves several times. Whispering can be heard.

Season 9

SPN9 Title card

The title "Supernatural" appears over a set of burning angel wings, that explodes in a blinding white light. Meanwhile, the high-pitch of an angel's true voice can be heard.

Slumber Party

A homage to The Wizard of Oz. The message on the lower left reads "This is for the SPNFamily whose dedication and love drive us to continue creating this wonderful world. Keeping up the Family Business". However this title card did not appear on the show.

Meta Fiction

Capture

The usual burning angel wings of the season sprout out before being retracted and replaced by a bright white light, and blue in-tact angel wings. The Supernatural name is replaced by the name Metatron.

Season 10

Supernatural Season 10 Title Card-Small

Angelic blue light bursts out, following it demonic black smoke. As it spreads, a pentagram can be seen. This likely alludes to the season's primary antagonist, Rowena and her witchcraft and her combative relationship with Crowley.

Season 11

Season 11 title card

A white light is followed by the word Supernatural in gold over a black smokey background. The Supernatural name here might represent creation being born from "nothingness", or the Darkness. This is the first intro card to feature the season number.

Season 12

Supernatural season 12 title card

The word Supernatural is seen over a fiery Men of Letters symbol, which foreshadows the Men of Letters' involvement as the season's Big Bad.

Season 13

Season 13 Title Card

A inverted cross is seen before the word Supernatural is seen over what it looks like the gold eye of Jack, the Nephilim, and it could also be interpreted as a portal which foreshadows the inclusion of the many alternate universes this season.

Scoobynatural

ScoobyNatural Title Card

The gold eye opener of the season is animated, and the word Supernatural is replaced by the episode name. It also moves as if the title were floating.

Season 14

Season 14 Title Card

Black wings are seen before the word Supernatural is seen over what it looks like the wings of possibly, Alternate Michael, Angels.

Season 15

Season 15 Title Card

A flash of light in the shape of Dean's Amulet explodes in front of a cosmic background right before an escaped soul from hell flies towards the screen, which furthermore results in another explosion shortly revealing burning angel wings as well as a small, black and inverted Pentagram. Finally the word Supernatural comes into frame with an organic looking structure in the background that resembles the entrance to hell with a slight look of the black goo associated with the shadow from the Empty.
