The Memory Remains is the 18th episode of Season 12. It aired on April 13, 2017.

Summary

Sam and Dean investigate a missing person’s case in a small town. The lead witness tells the Winchesters the attacker was a man with the head of a goat. Sam and Dean aren’t sure what to believe but when the witness goes missing they realize the town is hiding a dark secret.

"The Memory Remains" may be a reference to a song by the heavy metal band Metallica with the same name.
Through the episode, Dean arms himself with the Colt as his primary weapon rather than his usual pistol.
This is the first time the Colt wasn't fired in slow motion since its return in The Raid.
Pete tells Dean "hunting people, killing them, the family business" causing Dean to glare. This is a reference to Dean's line in "Wendigo" about the Winchester family business is "saving people, hunting things, the family business."
The name of the local legend of the goat man "Black Bill" is a reference to the goat Black Phillip who is a manifestation of Lucifer in the 2015 movie The Witch.
According to actor David Haydn-Jones, Ketch looking through the Bunker's telescope was an inside joke by director Phil Sgriccia.
The brothers F.B.I. alias names are Agent Stark and Agent Martell. A nod to Game of Thrones; House Stark and House Martell
