Yes it is one. An inanimate object cannot be a season’s main villain. Even the wiki page basically calls it an entity. It had a will of its own. I am updating the page please do not undo my edits. It is canon.

Sam: So, I've been thinking, look. Cain still has the Mark right? And he's lived with it, for years he's lived with it. So yeah, the Mark is strong, but Dean maybe there's a part of you that wants to give into it, and maybe you have to fight that, you know? Maybe part of that powerful force has to be you.

Death didn’t say nothing but the First Blade can kill you. And Cain is killed with the First Blade. So either what Sam said is a canon discrepancy or it’s worth noting that even in a copied version of the Mark, the aspect as the Darkness’ cage is transferred. As the sealing aspect of the cage is what makes the host unable to be truly killed. As even if someone is killed with the mark, they are revived ad infinitum.[[User:Twilight Despair 5|User:Twilight Despair 5 (The God of Creation)]] (talk) 19:27, March 24, 2019 (UTC)

Consequences?[]

Cain mentioned some consequences about having the mark and I wonder, since it was part of the "contract" Cain and Lucifer made, if one of the consequences now would be that Dean goes to hell after he's dead? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.180.144.244 (talkcontribs)

Most likely, yeah. They seem to be reversing the roles of the brothers now, with Sam aligned with Heaven and Dean aligned with Hell. This was already foreshadowed in episode 2, with Gadreel inside Sam and Abaddon threatening to possess Dean. FTWinchester (talk) 16:27, January 22, 2014 (UTC)

How is dean not able to contain the mark of cain even though he can contain the oldest and most powerful Archangel? User:Cazman123Cazman123 (talk) 23:28, June 14, 2014 (UTC)

2 Marks[]

In "First Born" you can see the mark on Cain's arm when he rolls up his sleeves AFTER he gives it to Dean. Thoughts? EmpyreanSmoke (talk) 23:41, October 7, 2014 (UTC)

Either it's a prop tattooed onto him, and not computer generated, or the mark must leave some kind of welt or bruise after being transferred. -- ImperiexSeed, 11:13 PM, October 7th 2014
I think it was an effects error. I just rewatchted the episode and noticed that.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk) 08:18, January 17, 2015 (UTC)

Well this episode pretty much clears things up. EmpyreanSmoke (talk) 06:16, January 21, 2015 (UTC)

The Hunter Games[]

I actually found that clip on YouTube and all he said was it couldn't be burned off. They never said if he meant White Light or literally burned off and it couldn't be physically removed. However, this shouldn't be posted until the episode is up as its not canon until it airs. Otherwise we'd put up Metatron being their prisoner in the dungeon already and that Charlie is back from Oz. Oh and that Cain is returning in a few episodes.--WarGrowlmon18 (talk) 08:18, January 17, 2015 (UTC)

Stupid Hex bag[]

Is anyone else upset that a stupid little hex bag could get rid of the mark, a work of Lucifer? EmpyreanSmoke (talk) 16:54, February 4, 2015 (UTC)

Yes, I was quite mad. Castiel even made it clear that the mark's bonded to Dean in more than just a physical way, and yet simple hexwork that only affected him on a physical level, removed the mark. -- ImperiexSeed, 2:34 PM, February 4th 2015

Perhaps, since the hex bag only alters his physical body, it only removed the physical mark off his body, because he didn't have it when he was 14, but the mark was still branded on his soul. 68.113.60.10 20:22, February 4, 2015 (UTC)

The Hex bag didn't remove the mark, it jumped over the problem by putting Dean's mind in his body when he was fourteen (he wasn't simply deaged, that was litterally the same body he had at the time) as he hadn't gotten the mark yet, it circumnavigated the problem.--General MGD 109 (talk) 22:39, February 4, 2015 (UTC)

So what happened to his current body? EmpyreanSmoke (talk) 02:31, February 5, 2015 (UTC)

Don't know, I equally have no idea what happened to the actual fourteen year old Dean during time present Dean had his body, or how it really works. I guess it was just that powerful a spell.General MGD 109 (talk) 11:14, February 7, 2015 (UTC)

You guys act like witchcraft hasn't been overpowered before. Simple spells cast by mortals could paralyze a leviathan and even bind death. FTWinchester (talk) 11:28, February 7, 2015 (UTC)

Name change?[]

Should we change the name of his page to "The Mark"? I know it was previously known as the Mark of Cain, and that is what the characters called it, but now we know what it really is. It didn't originate with Lucifer/Cain, but originated with Darkness/God. Should we change now that we have this new information? EmpyreanSmoke (talk) 06:38, May 22, 2015 (UTC)

Knights of Hell[]

"A friend of mine hooked me up with the, uh, unpublished unpublished books. So, Sam came back from Hell. But without a soul. Then, Cas' brought in a bunch of leviathans from Purgatory. They lost Bobby. And then, Cas' and Dean got stuck in Purgatory, Sam hit a dog. They met a prophet named Kevin, they lost him too. Then Sam endured a series of trials, in an attempt to close the gates of Hell. Which nearly cost him his life. Then Dean ? Dean became a demon. Knight of Hell, actually." -Dean to Marie,Fan Fiction.

" Abel wasn't talking to God. He was talking to Lucifer. Lucifer was gonna make my brother into his pet. I couldn't bear to watch him be corrupted, so I offered a deal -- Abel's soul in heaven for my soul in hell.

Lucifer accepted... As long as I was the one who sent Abel to heaven. So, I killed him. Became a soldier of Hell -- a knight." -Cain to Dean, First Born.Gabriel456 (talk) 21:52, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

As for the other knights, chalk that up with the many other things the show never explained properly. It was never really stated how Cain created the other Knights (trained yes, but I'm talking actual creation) but their statements point to the Mark of Cain making the bearer a Knight (and why would they even lie? That'd make no sense). Gabriel456 (talk) 21:55, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

My theory, and how I keep my eye from twitching at how the writers never explain anything to us, in this case is to just think that the mark is only visible on the first body/host and the other knights all took different bodies. now granted this is pure speculation and fan theory but it helps me sleep at night. --ThomasNealy (talk) 22:34, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

Not sure how this got into a debate but there was absolutely nothing wrong with Gabriel's edit and he even proved it by providing evidence. He posted a quote directly from the episode Fan Fiction. "Then Dean ? Dean became a demon. Knight of Hell, actually" Dean called himself a Knight of Hell on screen. Which means the statement is canon. He was indeed a Knight. We don't know much about the other knights but we sure as hell know that when Cain gives someone the mark they will become a knight of hell. Nothing more to be argued in my opinion. Bkshadows (talk)

Identifying it as a character[]

The Mark of Cain is not an item. It is a sentient being that takes control of people. Since it existed before the creation of the universe, it should also be listed as a primordial entity.--Anonymous 1029384756 (talk) 01:06, May 12, 2018 (UTC)

The Mark is not a sentient being. That's the Darkness's influence, and she already has her own article.
