Robert Johnson, circa 1935.

  • Robert Leroy Johnson (May 8, 1911 - August 16, 1938) was a blues player who mysteriously died at 27 years of age. His composition, "Hellhound on My Trail", is rated as one of the 100 greatest musical works of the 20th century by NPR.
    • Legend has it that Robert sold his soul to a crossroad demon for his skills. In Rock Never Dies, Lucifer makes a joke about never learning how to play the guitar, possibly a reference to this legend.
  • Robert Johnson is the first character to make a deal at the crossroad in the show.
    • He is also hellhound's first on-screen victim.
  • Typically, Crossroad Demons provide their clients with a period of 10 years. However, for an unknown reason, Robert Johnson was given 8 years (he made a deal in 1930 and the hellhound killed him in 1938).
