Background

35 years ago, Peter Sweeney was bullied by two other boys, Bill Carlton and Jake Devenhal who were supossed to be his friends. They always bullied him because he was the smallest. One day they decided to hold his head under the water in 'Lake Manitoc'. Before they realized what they had done, it was too late and Peter accidentally drowned, though Bill and Jake didn't intend to kill him. To cover up thier tracks, they let his body sink to the bottom of the lake.

Now 35 years later, possibly prompted by the fact that the Lake will soon be drained of water, Peters sprit started to take revenge by killing the loved ones closest to Bill and Jake, now grown men. He succeeds in killing a number of thier relatives, including Bill who heads out onto the open water of the Lake. peter almost manages to kill Jake's Daughter-in-law and her son.

When Bill is killed and jake offers to trade his life in exchange for his grandsons, Peters spirit is finally laid to rest.
