Paul Arthur Dutton is a normal guy in a normal town, except he had been having an affair with a woman named Amanda Burns. Amanda happened to be a witch in a neighborhood Coven masquerading as a Book Club.

Paul had an affair with Amanda Burns, until he finally decided that this was a mistake and broke up with her to keep his wife Janet. Amanda threatened Paul but he didn't pay attention, so he decided to get revenge.
One night, a week after Paul broke with Amanda, Paul and Janet were coming home, and Janet walked into the bathroom when Amanda used a Hex Bag spell to kill her. Paul found his wife dead on the bathroom floor.
Amanda wasn't done yet, she wanted complete revenge and she also put a spell on him to finish him off.
Fortunately for him, his wife's death attracted the attention of the Sam and Dean Winchester. After Janet passed away, Sam checked the bathroom and found the spell used by Amanda, so the brothers followed Paul assuming he would be next.
At night, a depressed Paul was in his car eating a hamburger when Amanda used magic to infest said hamburger with maggots, which began to suffocate Paul. But Sam and Dean managed to find the voodoo bag in his car and burn it, saving his life. Then Paul confessed his affair and the name of the woman he was with, putting the hunters after the city's coven of witches. [1]
