I don't know what everybody's getting so worked up about. It's just a couple of angels having a slap-fight.
Odin referring to Michael and Lucifer
in Hammer of the Gods

Odin was the chief pagan deity of the Norse Pantheon. While on Earth he took the form of an elderly American man in a bomber jacket with a strong Midwest accent.

History

Before the First Heavenly Civil War, Odin and Loki had a "spat" which resulted in Loki being trapped in a cage with a snake dripping venom in his eyes. The Archangel Gabriel later freed Loki.

Season 5

Odin was one of the deities who met with the other deities, to try to work out a way to stop the Apocalypse. He was of a laid back disposition towards the whole thing, believing it to be a "slap fight between a couple of angels". He briefly got into an argument with Zao Shen when he began mocking the latter's world turtle.

Odin said nothing during Gabriel's arrival and watched silently when Kali seemingly killed him.

Odin's casual arrogance towards the angels cost him his life when Lucifer killed him in the Elysian Fields Hotel hallway. He was last seen screaming on the floor in pain before getting stomped on by the Archangels.

Season 13

In Unfinished Business, Loki reveals to Dean Winchester that he sold Gabriel to the Prince of Hell Asmodeus in revenge for Lucifer killing Odin, something that he blames on Gabriel. Dean explained it was Lucifer that killed Odin, though Loki still blames Gabriel and states that while Odin hated him, he was still Loki's father and Loki loved him.

Powers and Abilities

As king of the norse deities, Odin was an incredibly powerful deity. He could overpower his son Loki who was also a very powerful deity. However, he died before he had the opportunity to demonstrate any of his abilities.

  • Super strength - When he considered the Apocalypse to be a "spat fight of a couple of angels", it might imply that he was much stronger than ordinary angels. However, he was no match for Archangels as shown when Lucifer easily killed him.
  • Immortality - Odin was one of the oldest of the norse gods easily several thousand years old and was not subject to old age or natural death.
  • Invulnerability - Odin was immune to conventional weapons.

Lore

Odin1

Odin depicted in a book.

In Germanic mythology, Odin is a widely revered god. He is associated with healing, death, royalty, the gallows, knowledge, battle, sorcery, poetry, frenzy, and the runic alphabet. He is the husband of the goddess Frigg.

In Old Norse texts, Odin is depicted as one-eyed and long-bearded, frequently wielding a spear named Gungnir, and wearing a cloak and a broad hat. He is often accompanied by his animal companions—the wolves Geri and Freki and the ravens Huginn and Muninn, who bring him information from all over Midgard—and Odin rides the flying, eight-legged steed Sleipnir across the sky and into the underworld.

Odin is attested as having many sons, most famously the god Baldur, though this fact was not mentioned in Supernatural, despite the two appearing in the same episode.
