After Ellie broke up with someone and returned their ring, she decided to hook up with Nick.
The two ended up in an apartment and began kissing, with Ellie saying how nervous she was and how people used to warn her about doing this. Ellie had never hooked up before and excused her behavior as her trying to figure out how this whole thing works.
Nick didn't mind, saying it was cool. Ellie bemoaned how it could have been cooler. She proceeded to talk about how cool Nick's beard was and offered to get him a drink before rushing off to the bathroom.
As Nick waited for Ellie to come back out, he was approached by two men dressed in black suits. He asked what they were doing, but the men simply set him on fire as they searched for Ellie. The sight of Nick's death horrified Ellie, who ran to a neighbor's house and called for help.
