Monster Club is the name given by Ford Billup to the team of hunters led by Mary Campbell in 1972.
History[]
In March 1972, the Monster Club is formed by Mary Campbell when the search for her missing father draws in John Winchester, Latika Dar and Carlos Cervantez who are later joined by Ada Monroe. After being saved from a demon, Ada reveals that Samuel had learned of a threat called the Akrida, monsters not of this world who threaten all of existence and can only be stopped by the Ostium that the Men of Letters had created. Mary's friends commit themselves to the fight against the Akrida and finding her missing father.
The Monster Club bases themselves out of the Men of Letters Clubhouse which John, a legacy of the destroyed organization, had mysteriously received a key to from his long-missing father. However, their initial search for Samuel at a Men of Letters office in Savannah, Georgia proves to be a failure as neither Samuel nor the Men of Letters files on the Akrida are there. Instead, the Monster Club finds a newspaper clipping pointing them to a hunt in Topeka, Kansas. While the others deal with La Tunda, Ada searches for clues from the echoes of the demon that had possessed her.
Following the successful slaying of La Tunda, a clue from Ada's automatic writing of the echoes of the demon leads Ada and Carlos in pursuit of Slick who eventually reveals that he and his partner had made a deal to trade the Monster Box for them being spared by the Akrida, but he is unable to give them any more information on the box itself which stopped working after being used to kill the demon possessing Ada or the Akrida aside from the fact that their leader has taken on a human vessel. At the same time, Mary and John investigate the disappearance of Mary's neighbor, Carrie Billup. After being told of the group, Carrie's brother Ford dubs them the Monster Club and asks if he can join. Mary agrees, but warns him that Monster Club must be kept a secret. The monster responsible is determined by Lata to be Bori Baba, a North Indian boogeyman that she had believed to just be a story. Mary is able to rescue Carrie and Ford and John slays Bori Baba, but the appearance of two rare monsters of other cultures concerns the group who realizes that it must be connected to the Akrida somehow. Mary tells John that after Ford saw them slay Bori Baba, Ford has only increased his interest in hunting and wants to make Monster Club jackets.
Shortly thereafter, the Monster Club investigates a series of deaths of military veterans with John and Carlos, a Marine and Navy medic respectively, going undercover. The culprit proves to be Mars Neto, a pagan god who is aware of the Akrida's presence on Earth and is preparing for a war against them. Before being killed, Mars tells John that the Monster Club is too weak to defeat the Akrida but John, who is both a hunter and a soldier, could be sharpened into a powerful weapon against them.
After the strange death of a councilman, the Monster Club investigates, believing that they are facing a djinn. The case reunites Ada with her estranged son Tony Monroe who is revealed to be a half-djinn who came out of Ada's romantic relationship with a djinn named Ali. Although the Monster Club at first suspects Tony, he reveals that the Akrida were actually responsible. It's discovered that the Akrida are injecting people with mind control stingers which is eventually fatal to them. While protecting the Akrida's next victim, Derek Fisher, the Monster Club comes face to face with an Akrida for the very first time and Mary is hit by its stingers. With Tony's help, John dreamwalks into Mary's mind and helps her confront the trauma of the night that she was told that monsters were real and that she would have to become a hunter. Mary is then able to find and destroy the stingers, freeing her from the danger of the Akrida's control.
In the aftermath, Tony reveals that he found out that the Akrida are collecting essence from the remains of rare monsters, meaning that the Monster Club have been unknowingly doing their dirty work by killing La Tunda and Bori Baba. Investigating the connection between the various victims, the club deduces that they were all working on a radio tower project which allows the Akrida to amplify their signal that is drawing in rare monsters from around the world. From records of the project, the Monster Club realizes that the Akrida Leader is possessing local DJ Rockin' Roxy. At the same time, the Akrida are shown to be aware of the Monster Club and their efforts. While another Akrida worries about that the hunters will be a problem after they were unable to take control of Mary, but the Akrida Leader reassures him that they'll get the hunters the way they want eventually.
The Akrida Leader later offers to trade a captured Samuel for the box which the Club learns is called the Ostium and it works by banishing the Akrida back to their own universe. Discovering that the Akrida are linked to their queen, the Monster Club uses the Ostium to banish the Akrida Leader, but she turns out not to be the Akrida Queen. Samuel saves John and Mary from several more Akrida, banishing them with the Ostium but breaking it in the process. In the aftermath, Samuel shares what he knows about the Akrida with the group and helps them to defeat Loki before going off with Ada to search for magic capable of stopping the Akrida. In addition, Millie takes the Ostium in an attempt to repair it. John and Mary start a relationship while spotting the man who had given John his father's letter in one of Samuel's pictures, revealing him to be Dean Winchester.
Following these events, the Monster Club focuses on finding Dean and stopping the Akrida, eventually tracking down the Akrida Queen's location with the help of Roxy who survived her possession. However, the Akrida frame John for the murder of Kyle Reed in an attempt to force him to reveal information on Dean. Instead, John realizes that Dean is not of this Earth and thus a threat to the Akrida. After using the Bracelet of Erebus on Betty Donelon, they are able to get her to help them break John out and he goes on the run with Mary until Millie and Betty find a witness who clears John's of Kyle's murder.
Ada's search for a way to defeat the Akrida Queen leads her to Rowena MacLeod who provides Ada with a crystal that can kill the Akrida at the cost of a piece of Ada's soul. From the information provided by Rowena, the Monster Club realizes that the Akrida Queen will use a planetary alignment that has already begun to open her portal. Joined by Samuel and Millie, they are contacted by a hunter named Joan Hopkins who reveals herself to be the Akrida Queen. Having banished Dean into a portal intended to tear him apart, Joan offers the hunters a chance to join her and has Lata possessed as additional leverage, forcing Ada to sacrifice the magic that Rowena gave her to save her friend's life. As John, Samuel and Carlos hold off Joan and several Akrida, Mary, Lata and Millie use the Ostium in reverse in an attempt to bring Dean back into their world. Instead, they bring back the Impala which Mary realizes can kill Joan as the car is not of their world. Mary hits Joan with the Impala, killing her, but also driving through a portal that Joan opens moments before her death. The death of Joan destroys the Akrida, forever ending their threat.
Moments after the Akrida's defeat, the Impala returns with Dean and Mary. Dean explains to the Monster Club that he is a hunter from another universe who detoured through the Multiverse in search of a world where his family got a chance at a happy ending on Dean's way through Heaven. In the process, Dean had discovered the Akrida which were created by God to destroy everything as a failsafe in case of his defeat. With the Akrida threatening his world as well and, most importantly, his brother, Dean had broken Jack Kline's rules against interference to bring the Monster Club together to stop the Akrida. Joined by Jack and Bobby Singer, Dean gives the hunters the alias of James Hetfield and doesn't reveal that he's actually John and Mary's son and Millie and Samuel's grandson. Before being returned to his own universe by Jack, Dean provides his parents with his hunting journal to help guide them and the Colt to kill Azazel should they ever encounter the Prince of Hell.
In the aftermath, John and Mary depart to figure out their future together while the rest of the Monster Club continues hunting, taking on a possible werewolf case near the beach.
