Moloch was the god of sacrifice whom the Bishop Family used for over a hundred years to gain riches.

History

Around 1898, Moloch was captured by a member of the Bishop Family who then starved Moloch until he agreed to grant the family riches in exchange for a sacrifice of blood every year. Each year from 1898 until 1997 the family fed Moloch who kept them rich. However, in 1997, Barrett Bishop, the head of the family, died and his son, Barrett Bishop Jr., refused to continue on with his work. Instead, Barrett locked Moloch away in the hope that he would starve to death.

In 2017, Moloch was rediscovered by Barrett's half-brother Pete Garfinkle and promised to make him rich if Pete would feed him. Pete kidnapped Jarrod Hayes and Daryn Boston and sacrificed them to Moloch. As Moloch had been starved for 20 years, he needed more blood than normal to get back up to full power and grant Pete his promised riches. Moloch's kills drew the attention of the British Men of Letters who sent hunters Sam and Dean Winchester to investigate. Capturing Dean while trying to capture Barrett, Pete locked Dean in a meat locker with Moloch who stalked him. Dean eventually stabbed Moloch in the side with a meat hook, injuring him moments before Sam broke in after having killed Pete. Catching Moloch's attention, Sam shot him through the chest with the Colt. Moloch quickly dissolved into a puddle as the legendary gun's power killed him.

Trivia

  • Actor John DeSantis previously portrayed Freeman Daggett in "Ghostfacers" and the Golem in "Everybody Hates Hitler". He also did uncredited work as the Scarecrow in "Fan Fiction".
  • Moloch bears some similarities to Cernunnos, a horned god of Celtic polytheism. Cernunnos was a Celtic god of fertility, life, animals, wealth, and the underworld. Cernunnos is depicted with the antlers of a stag, sometimes carries a purse filled with coin, often seated cross-legged and often associated with animals and holding or wearing torcs.
  • Moloch also bears a strong resemblance to an ancient Canaanite god of the same name. Moloch has been depicted as having the head of a bull and a fondness for child sacrifice. There is some evidence that this god was also worshiped in Carthage.
  • An alien called a Goa'uld posing as Moloch was the main enemy of the Stargate SG-1 episode Sacrifices. Stargate SG-1 starred Amanda Tapping who played Naomi on Supernatural and Amanda's character had a hand in the death of the Stargate version of Moloch. Stargate and Supernatural share several common actors.
  • Before Dagon severely damaged the Colt, Moloch was the last being to be killed by the weapon.
