The Men of Letters Clubhouse is a Men of Letters clubhouse in Lawrence, Kansas used by their members living and operating in that area. Following the destruction of the Men of Letters by Joan Hopkins, it was left abandoned for the next decade and a half until it became the new base of operations for John, Mary and their friends.

History[]

Early History[]

The Men of Letters operating in the Lawrence area, including Henry Winchester, utilize this clubhouse as their base of operations. Following the destruction of the Men of Letters by Joan Hopkins, it is left abandoned for the next fifteen years.[1]

The Winchesters[]

In Pilot, in 1972, after returning from Vietnam, John Winchester receives a letter from his long-missing father containing the key and the address to the clubhouse. In the letter, Henry promises his son that the answers to all of his questions can be found at the address. John is ambushed by a demon also seeking access to the clubhouse, but he is saved by Mary Campbell who exorcises the demon who was prevented from possessing John by the anti-possession charm on the clubhouse's key.

Entering the clubhouse, John and Mary are shocked by what they find. Mary tells John that her family has lived in town for years and never even knew that it existed. Finding his father's locker, John retrieves Henry's belongings from it while Mary finds a file on the Monster Box that her father had sent her to find. Latika Dar later determines that Samuel had needed the schematic from the clubhouse in order to know which runes on the box unlocked it.

After retrieving the Monster Box, the group returns to the clubhouse with it and Ada Monroe who reveals that Samuel had been looking for the box as it is the only thing that can kill the Akrida. The group then departs for Savannah, Georgia where a Men of Letters office has records on how the Akrida have crossed over in the past.

In Teach Your Children Well, after returning from the office in Savannah which has already been cleared out by Samuel, Mary sends Ada to set up shop in the clubhouse. Drinking a potion in a hidden area of it, Ada begins performing automatic writing. When the others return after their case in Topeka, Ada leads them to the hidden area and reveals that she had used the potion to access the echoes of the demon that had possessed her in order to gain more information on the other demon that the group had faced, the one that John and Mary had fought outside of the clubhouse.

In You're Lost Little Girl, the group, which is later dubbed the Monster Club by Ford Billup, does research into Samuel's possible whereabouts and the demon that they are tracking. Using the information Ada got, she and Carlos depart in search of the demon while John, Mary and Lata focus on a monster that is making kids disappear nearby. Lata is able to identify it as Bori Baba and uses the clubhouse's phone to make several overseas calls in search of information on it. After both successful hunts, the group reconvenes at the clubhouse before Mary decides to take the night off and go see a movie.

In Masters of War, Mary and Lata perform research at the clubhouse while John and Carlos are working on a case at a veteran's therapy group. However, with the revelation that they are dealing with a Pre-Christian being, Lata tells Mary that the clubhouse's library lacks information on that. Instead, Mary and Lata turn to Maggie Campbell's books to identify the monster as Mars Neto.

In Legend of a Mind, the Monster Club uses the clubhouse infirmary while going through the autopsy records of Councilman Gordon Baxter who mysteriously died. After Mary is hit by Akrida stingers, the hunters return to the clubhouse with her and tie her up while seeking out Tony Monroe's help to save her. Afterwards, they pour over records connected to the victims and deduce that they were all a part of a radio tower project that the Akrida are using to broadcast their signal that is drawing in rare monsters from around the world.

In Hang on to Your Life, Lata places Loki's Hand Mirror which is imprisoning Loki himself in a chest in the clubhouse. It's also revealed that Dean Winchester was the one who had given John Henry's letter and the key to the clubhouse.

Layout and Contents[]

Much like the Men of Letters bunker, the clubhouse still has power even after decades of being abandoned. Other features include a number of tables and chairs, a pool table, a chess board, a globe, bookshelves, filing cabinets and lockers for the Men of Letters to store their personal belongings. Near the entrance is a board with a number of pictures on it.[1] The clubhouse has an old phone that, even after a decade and a half, still works.[2]

The door is magically sealed and it can only be opened by the key.[1]

The clubhouse has a hidden area behind a bookcase which contains a number of bottles and plants.[3]

It also has an infirmary.[4]

According to Carlos Cervantez, the Clubhouse is "endless."[5]

Under the morgue are tunnels that contain a locker room and wiring that, by 1972, is subpar and possibly nibbled on by rats. The lockers were used to store important artifacts in cases that the Men of Letters were assigned.[5]

The Clubhouse has an entry point from the Lawrence sewer system that is vulnerable to attack as it is not warded.[5]
