Maritza is a Peruvian fat-sucking parasite, also known as a pishtaco. Although she was a monster, Maritza attempted to coexist with humans, knowing the alternative was to be eventually tracked down and killed by hunters. After debating her fate, Sam and Dean allowed Maritza to live. Martiza was given a one-way ticket back to Peru.
Biography[]
Season 9[]
After coming to America with her brother, Alonso, Maritza married a human named Larry who was aware of her status as a monster. Knowing that if she and her brother sucked people dry and therefore killing them would eventually lead to their exposure and death at the hands of hunters, Maritza established a "portion control" for them that would leave their victims alive. Eventually, either Maritza or Larry decided that they could profit off feeding her and Alonso by opening a spa and feeding off their clients, helping them lose weight while feeding themselves. Careful to restrict themselves to small portions so as to keep their victims alive and avoid suspicion, Maritza did open a spa with her husband and brother. Using "cupping" suction treatment as part of the experience, Maritza placed five cups on a client and suck off fat where a sixth cup would go so as to cover up any suspicion for the marks.
Unfortunately, Alonso nearly killed a client during a session, forcing Maritza to remand him to kitchen duty, restricted to eating fat from a jar. However, Alonso's hunger could not be met, resulting in him murdering two people.
Once Sam and Dean show up and are revealed as hunters by Larry, Maritza begins disposing fat stores and is seen by Dean, who proceeded to tie her up and question her. Deciding to comply, supposedly to survive, she reveals her identity as a pishtaco and tells Dean her brother, Alonso, was behind the killings because he couldn't restrain himself to portions. Alonso killed her husband Larry after he (Larry) attempted to confront him (Alonso) and was then killed by Dean. Dean insisted on finishing the job and killing Maritza too, but Sam reprimanded him for that because Maritiza never did anything wrong, being a monster is not a good enough reason to kill her, and he managed to get Dean to reluctantly agree not to hurt her and instead let her return to Peru.
Personality[]
Maritza is one of the very few monsters in the series that does not want to hurt people as she only wants to be able to eat enough without killing people.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Super Strength - Being a pishtaco, Maritza has the superhuman strength displayed by them, although their level of strength is more in the region of a lesser monster, like a ghoul, rather than extremely powerful like a vampire.
- Invulnerability - She can only be killed with silver.
- Lamprey mouth - Pishtaco possess a lamprey like sucking appendage which they use to feed. However they can also use it to kill by sucking out too much fat or by ripping a hole in a person.
Weaknesses[]
- Silver - Pishtacos are vulnerable to weapons made of silver. Dean kills a Pishtaco with a silver knife.
- Severing their proboscis - Cutting off their sucking appendage with a silver blade will kill a Pishtaco.
