- In French and French-Canadian folklore, a loup-garou is a shapeshifting creature that shares similarities with werewolves. While they can take on wolf forms, they can also appear as dogs, ox, cats, owls, and pigs. The loup-garou are believed to be cursed men. In the French-Canadian tradition, a loup-garou is often guilty of not being a good Christian. For example, people who did not confess during Easter could be cursed to become a loup-garou.
- Loup-Garou is another name for a Rugaru.
