Loki is a Norse god whose identity was borrowed by Gabriel for millennia.

History

In ancient times, Loki was found by the archangel Gabriel who was on a stroll through the fjords. Loki was bound in a cave with a snake dripping venom into his eye following a "spat" with his father Odin. Gabriel freed Loki from his chains and saved Loki's life.

After Gabriel's brothers Michael and Lucifer went to war, Gabriel approached Loki for help, wanting out of Heaven. Loki agreed to help Gabriel go into "witness protection" and allowed Gabriel to assume his form and the persona of Loki the Trickster. Due to his own "family drama," it was in Loki's best interests at the time to lie low. All that he requested of Gabriel was that Gabriel keep away from his more volatile family problems, which Gabriel agreed to.

In 2010, following his faked death at the Elysian Fields Hotel, Gabriel approached Loki and his sons Fenrir, Narfi and Slepnir for help in hiding. Though the four originally agreed, Loki and his sons betrayed Gabriel, bound him and sold him to the Prince of Hell Asmodeus in revenge for the death of Odin at the hands of Lucifer, something that Loki blamed on Gabriel.

In 2018, Gabriel escaped Asmodeus' custody and ultimately killed him. Gabriel was able to track Loki and his sons to Central City, Colorado and sought them to get revenge. Low on grace, Gabriel crafted special wooden swords to kill the four and decided to kill Loki's sons first. Gabriel succeeded in killing Fenrir, but was wounded and sought the help of hunters Sam and Dean Winchester. After Gabriel explained his history with Loki, the Winchesters agreed to aid Gabriel in killing Loki if he would help them fight Michael.

After helping Gabriel kill Slepnir, Dean headed to the penthouse where Loki was staying alone to confront him with Gabriel's sword. Though Dean claimed not care why Gabriel wanted Loki dead, Loki recognized that Dean did "a little bit" and explained that his treatment of Gabriel stemmed from the death of his father Odin. Though Dean pointed out that Lucifer killed Odin, Loki told him that Odin was at the hotel in the first place because he was there to deal with Gabriel's brothers. Loki told Dean about Gabriel's promise when Gabriel took on the persona of Loki and how Gabriel broke the promise when he showed up at the hotel which cost Odin his life. Loki pointed out that despite their differences, Odin was still his father and he didn't want Odin dead.

As Loki asked what Dean would do for his father, he approached Dean who stabbed Loki with the sword. However, Loki proved to be merely a projection that Dean couldn't harm, but that could hurt Dean. The projection was dissipated when Sam arrived and shot it.

At the same time, the real Loki confronted Gabriel in the hallway outside and noted that Gabriel didn't have the sword designed to kill him. Gabriel claimed that he "wanted to do this one old school" and tossed away the sword he was holding. Loki telekinetically flung Gabriel against a wall and began viciously kicking him and mocked Gabriel's inability to keep one promise and then have the audacity to ask Loki for help again. Loki continued his attack, demanding to know if Gabriel thought that he and his sons deserved to die for Gabriel's spinelessness.

As Loki grabbed Gabriel again, Dean slid him the correct sword and Gabriel pinned Loki to the wall, holding the sword against his chest. Helpless to stop Gabriel, Loki mocked Gabriel for needing someone to save him again and called Gabriel a joke and a failure that stood for nothing and would eventually die for nothing. Telling Loki "you first," Gabriel drove the sword through Loki's heart, killing him.

In the aftermath, Gabriel appeared to be disturbed by his encounter with Loki. Gabriel agreed to help the Winchesters fight Michael as he promised and though he claimed to be satisfied by getting his revenge on Loki, Gabriel appeared to be lying, instead not getting the satisfaction he expected as Dean predicted.

Powers and Abilities

You mess with the real Trickster you get the real tricks.

Loki appeared to be a powerful god with powerful abilities.

  • Immortality - Loki was thousands of years old and would never age or die unless killed.
  • Invulnerability - As a god, Loki was invulnerable to most forms of harm.
  • Reality Warping - Loki possessed a powerful form of reality warping which he used in his original role as The Trickster. Loki was able to transform a crappy motel room into a five-star suite at will for his own uses.
    • Conjuration - Loki was able to conjure a realistic projection of himself to interact with Dean Winchester. Though Dean could not harm it, the projection could harm Dean.
  • Telekinesis - Loki was able to fling Gabriel against a wall with just a wave of his mind.
  • Super Strength - Loki was able to severely beat the archangel Gabriel, albeit when he was in a weakened state due to his depleted grace. His projection also possessed this ability, throwing Dean around easily.
