La Tunda was a malevolent creature with plant-like characteristics in The Winchesters.
History[]
Sometime in the past, there lived in Colombia an abusive and controlling mother who kept her children trapped in her home deep in the woods. One day, the children tried to escape by hobbling her. The woman caught the children and punished them by chopping up their remains. She then fed the children's carcass to her flower garden. This act imbued the woman's flowers with dark magic and an insatiable thirst for blood. The flowers transformed La Tunda into a monster to keep the flowers fed.
At an unspecified time, La Tunda moved to Topeka where she fed on young people attending a commune to break free from their parent figures. There, it attracted the attention of Samuel Campbell, who, in turn, alerted Mary Campbell, John Winchester, Carlos Cervantez and Latika Dar. La Tunda ultimately met her demise at the hands of the young hunters. Not long after, her remains was visited by a cloaked figure, who appeared to draw some form of magical essence that manifested as reddish wisp of light. The cloaked figure then bottled up the essence she collected.
Personality[]
La Tunda's cruelty with children continued after her transformation. She taunted and ridiculed her prey by assuming the parent figure the children were too afraid to stand up to. Any attempts to escape her lair was met with fatal punishment, much like how her original children met their demise.
Physical appearance[]
La Tunda appeared like an old woman with unkempt hair, ragged clothes, and her leg had a trunk-like appearance. She is capable of unleashing vines from her hands to strangle her prey. She is capable of changing her appearance into people she has not met yet, although this is only visible to her victim. She left behind sap after abducting her victims, although the sap that came from her body appeared brighter than the sap she left behind when attacking.
Powers and abilities[]
Having been transformed by dark magic through flowers, La Tunda had an array of plant-related abilities.
- Super strength - La Tunda had enough strength to overpower young hunters in a fight. She sent Mary flying across her lair and easily flipped John during their fight.
- Shapeshifting - La Tunda could appear as a different person to her victim despite not having met the person she is appearing as. Although she was described to be a 'shapeshifter', she was not seen visibly changing appearances the way a shapeshifter, a leviathan, Eve or an archangel could. It is possible that it is a form of limited reality warping or perception alteration like that of a siren.
- Burrowing - after capturing her victims, she took them to her lair by rapidly burrowing into the ground. Whether she achieved this by physically tunneling through the ground or by magic is unknown. This process left behind the rare flowers that were tied to her in lore.
Weaknesses[]
- Her leg - When John kicked her leg, it snapped into splinters. This was likely linked to her children hobbling her back when she was human.
- Her heart - Her true real vulnerable point was her heart. It was said that only magic of the same power as her could kill her. Mary used La Tunda's own leg splinter to stake her.

Trivia[]
- La Tunda was based on real-life lore of an entity of the same name in Colombia and Ecuador.
