Julie Hudson was dying of cancer so her husband, Evan Hudson, made a deal with a Crossroad Demon to save Julie's life in exchange for his soul.

The demon gave Evan ten years of life with Julie. After these ten years were up, Evan convinced Julie to visit her sister and he waited for the hellhounds to come and take his soul. Her husband was protected from the hellhounds by Sam while Dean trapped and forced the demon to break the contract.[1]
