Jim Murphy was the pastor of a church in Blue Earth, Minnesota and a friend of John Winchester.

A pastor, Jim Murphy was a friend of John Winchester for many years, and was a fellow hunter. They were so close that Jim even looked after Dean and Sam on occasions, and on one occasion where John was searching for a demon that had escaped. Although they hadn't spoken in a year at the time of his death, he still considered John a friend.
Jim admits Meg into his church, unaware that she is possessed by a demon. When Meg reveals herself to be a demon, he retreats to a hidden room containing weapons. He throws a knife at her, but she catches it. She then asks where the Winchesters are. When Jim refuses to tell her, Meg uses his knife to slashes his throat, killing him.[1]
