Jim Murphy was the pastor of a church in Blue Earth, Minnesota and a friend of John Winchester.
Background
Season 1
A pastor, Jim Murphy was a friend of John Winchester for many years, and was a fellow hunter. They were so close that Jim even looked after Dean and Sam on occasions, and on one occasion where John was searching for a demon that had escaped. Although they hadn't spoken in a year at the time of his death, he still considered John a friend.
Jim admits Meg into his church, unaware that she is possessed by a demon. When Meg reveals herself to be a demon, he retreats to a hidden room containing weapons. He throws a his specieal knife at her, but she catches it. She then asks where the Winchesters are. When Jim refuses to tell her, Meg uses his knife to slashes his throat, killing him.[1]
