Castiel confirmed that Luke from the new testiment was indeed a prophet. Since he is a prophet, and most of his prophetic writings are about Jesus, it is implied that Jesus had some supernatural significence. Whether or not he was God, or the son of God, is unknown.

* The angel Joshua seems to have borrowed some of Jesus' traits along with the name. Firstly, of Jesus it is said that he is the only one who has seen the face of God the Father (John 1:18, 6:46), and the show's angel Joshua is the only one who speaks with God (albeit not face to face). Secondly, after Jesus rose from the dead, one of his female disciples did not immediately recognize him and mistook him for a gardener (John 20:15), and in the show, the angel Joshua is called a "gardener". Additionally the name Joshua is reminiscent of Jeshua the aramaic and likely historically acurrate name of Jesus.

This article describes allusions to Jesus in the Supernatural universe.

Jesus Christ as depicted in a church.

Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity and is said to be the son of God, who at some point is believed to have sent him to Earth to save humanity. Other depictions hold Him to be part of God, a mere Prophet, or a simple man. This ambiguity is present in the way the show treats Him in-universe.

As has happened with other characters of Christianity, there are some differences between how Jesus is presented in the Christian scriptures and the way he has been mentioned in the series. Whereas in the former he is God or the Son of God, in the latter, he is said (at least by Eve) to have been nothing but a man.[1] Though Jesus has never been depicted in the series, the rise of the religion he found has provided context to some storylines. With the coming of Jesus on Earth, the pagan gods Madge and Edward Carrigan and Vesta lost almost all of their followers, and without sacrifices they were weakened. [2]

Castiel confirmed that Luke from the New Testament was indeed a prophet. Since he is a prophet, and most of his prophetic writings are about Jesus, it is implied that Jesus had some supernatural significance. Whether or not he was God, or the son of God, is unknown.

Mentions

Edward Carrigan: All of a sudden, this Jesus character is the hot new thing in town. All of a sudden, our altars are being burned down, and we’re being hunted down like common monsters.
Season 3, A Very Supernatural Christmas

Eve: What is right for me?
Rick: This emptiness you feel inside --it's really a hunger for him.
Eve: You do know that Jesus was just a man.
Rick: Sure, but he is also the son of God, sent here because he loves us.
Season 6, ...And Then There Were None

Vesta: It only got pathetic when I started having to do it myself. Because of that hippie from Bethlehem -- before him, they practically threw virgins at me.
Season 9, Rock and a Hard Place

Sam Winchester (about the homeless encampment where Metatron is currently located sees him as a new Jesus): There's a homeless encampment. The way the folks talking he's got them convinced he's some kind of new Jesus or something.
Season 9, Do You Believe In Miracles?

Sam Winchester says that speaking God's name in Latin, "Christo", to a possessed person will make them flinch. In truth, God in Latin is not "Christo," but "Deus." "Christos" would be "Christ" in first century Greek, translated from the Hebrew "Moshiach" (English: Messiah) both meaning the "Anointed One." It was modified and changed by the Romans into the Latin "Christus" meaning Christ, or sometimes mistakenly "Chrestus," the "Marked Man." "Christo" could arguably work to the same effect as was depicted, literally Latin meaning "by/in Christ."[3]

Lore

 • The angel Joshua seems to have borrowed some of Jesus' traits along with the name. Firstly, of Jesus it is said that he is the only one who has seen the face of God the Father (John 1:18, 6:46), and the show's angel Joshua is the only one who speaks with God (albeit not face to face). Secondly, after Jesus rose from the dead, one of his female disciples did not immediately recognize him and mistook him for a gardener (John 20:15), and in the show, the angel Joshua is called a "gardener".[4] Additionally the name Joshua is reminiscent of Jeshua the aramaic and likely historically accurate name of Jesus.
 • The Prophet Luke named the Biblical king Jesse, father of King David, an ancestor of Jesus. Ironically, the name of the antichrist in Supernatural is Jesse Turner.
