The Hunt for Alphas was a conflict between hunters lead by Samuel Campbell against Alphas and the Monsters lead by Eve.

Background[]

Following Michael's imprisonment in the Cage, Heaven without any leadership causes a power vacuum. A Primordial Angel, Raphael, fills the void and asserts domination. Castiel refuses to subordinate to Raphael's subjegative authority, but his positions are overwhelmed and takes drastic measures by making a deal with Crowley. The deal is comprised of opening a portal to Purgatory, and splitting the souls between the angel and demon. Crowley gives him 50,000 souls without preconditions, giving him the opportunity to raise resistances. The patriarchal figure Samuel Campbell is resurrected by Crowley to exploit his knowledge on monster lore and mythology that surpasses others in the field, with the understanding that Crowley will resurrect Mary Winchester provided Samuel locate Purgatory. Monsters start acting out their nature, such as werewolves attacking in broad daylight. Samuel recruits Sam given his advanced skills in the profession, and Dean leaves retirement and assists Sam with the mission as described with Crowley promising the return of Sam's soul from the Cage if they obtain information on Purgatory. Dean undergoes vampiristic conversion, and is cured with the vampirism cure. Samuel introduces them to Alphas, the progenitors of monsters. The hunters hunt down monsters and Alphas. An ancient, elite class of monsters Dragons summon Eve, the supreme and original monster, from the depths of Purgatory. She creates new species of monsters to confront the hunters, and attempts to stop Castiel and Crowley from absorbing the souls from Purgatory. Castiel wields all the powers of Heaven's Weapons to cause Raphael to fall back. A beta testing organism possesses Dean, and he kills hunter in arms Gwen under its control. It secretly takes control of Bobby, who kills Rufus and Dean manages to kill it. Dean uses the high ranking monster the Phoenix's ashes, her main weakness, against her.

Aftermath[]

Sam's soul is returned to his body. Eve is killed with Phoenix ash. The location of Purgatory is revealed, and Castiel uses the knowledge to open Purgatory portal and absorbs all the souls inside, destroying Raphael and eradicates all opposition. Alphas are rendered endangered, and the Alpha Vampire goes in hiding.
