It is able to break through Heaven's defenses, incapacitating most of the angels. Because of the danger that would put Heaven in, along with all the souls in it, Naomi decided to give it what it wanted, but Castiel refused. Eventually, Castiel sacrificed himself to save Jack, making the Shadow abandon Heaven and release the angels.
