Early History

In the beginning, God and his sister the Darkness came into existence. To show her that there could be more than just the two of them, God created many worlds, but the Darkness would always destroy them. God then created the archangels, who helped him fight back the Darkness. All five of them combined could barely defeat her, so God tricked her and sealed her away, using the Mark of Cain as her lock and key. He gave the Mark to his most trusted son and lieutenant, Lucifer, to guard. He did not want to kill her as she needed to exist alongside him, thus why he locked her away instead, as Light and Dark must exist together to maintain the fabric of reality. After God locked away his sister, Death, the Pale Horseman, came into existence. Sometime after the war, God had created the first beasts, the Leviathans, but he saw that the Leviathans would be a threat to his creations, so he locked them away in a monster realm known as Purgatory. He created Heaven, where he and his archangels resided. He then created the classes of angels such as Seraphim, Grigori, normal Angels, Rit Zien, and Cherubim. He then selected Metatron to take down his word in various tablets.

Soon after, God created the Earth, which was, according to Lucifer, "The last perfect handiwork of God", and then he created humans. According to Metatron, God personally assigned Gadreel to protect his cherished creations in the "garden". He then asked all the angels to bow down to humans and present more compassion toward them than to him. At some point, God, angered by humanity for worshipping the aspects of nature rather than him, created the Deities inspired by this to make them take the blame and also because they made for good stories but in time God abandoned them due to his ego.

Lucifer, however, disobeyed his order and rebelled. God ordered Michael to cast Lucifer into Hell, creating a cage to hold him and making it impossible for the archangel to escape, save for the 66 Seals, rings of the Horsemen, or a powerful spell that would allow him to possess a vessel. Sometime before or after this, the Hellhounds, which God initially intended to be his best friends, were deemed too vicious and God wiped all but Ramsey, who was saved by Lucifer. At some point, God also locked up the Shedim, creatures stated to be basely dark and unimaginably evil, in a separate pocket of Hell that only an extremely powerful Nephilim could access, and would rid the Earth of the Nephilim the first time they were walking the Earth. God then had Gadreel locked away in the Heaven's dungeon for his failure, and left Heaven out of sheer disappointment in his creations. God took up the name Chuck Shurley and hid his presence from his children to live peacefully on earth though he kept in contact with his son and heaven's gardener Joshua. Wanting a front row seat to things, God masqueraded himself as a Prophet and hid his true power from every one and took up the identity of the author of the not-so-popular book series "Supernatural".

Season 4

Chuck writing the Winchester Gospel.

Sam and Dean discover him when they are assumed to be LARPing (Live Action Role Playing), and discover that the series includes every detail of their lives up to when Dean goes to Hell. They then find out from Sera Siege that Chuck is writing his next book and go to see him - when they introduce themselves as Sam and Dean. Chuck immediately shuts the door on them, thinking they were just fans who needed a "life". The Winchesters demanded to learn how Chuck knows about their lives, eventually convincing him who they were when they tell him their last names, something he had never told anyone. Chuck then begins to apologize for what they've been through, believing himself to be a god who forced those things to happen to them; Dean and Sam eventually convince him otherwise, but are still unsure on how Chuck is tuned in to their lives. Chuck reveals that he had actually never stopped writing and just wrote himself into the story, and after getting a vision of Sam and Lilith, together, he calls the Winchesters and gives them the script of his latest unpublished book, which describes what he has seen of the upcoming Apocalypse.

Later, Sam calls Chuck to the motel to see if he knows about the demon blood, which Chuck confirms, telling Sam that the story looks like everything will rest on Sam's shoulders. After Dean's failed attempts to stop Chuck's story, he confronts Chuck about it, and ends up threatening him. Castiel appears, stopping him, and tells Dean that Chuck is a prophet of the Lord - Chuck admits to dreaming about it, but hadn't thought it was real. Later, Dean goes to Castiel for help about Sam but he can't help though reveals to Dean that all prophets have archangels tied to them, giving Dean the idea of bringing Chuck to their motel room to stop Lilith and Sam. Chuck refuses to get involved even using the fact that the Archangel will protect him from Dean but the latter again threatens him. When they arrive at the motel, Chuck's archangel, Raphael, descends to protect him, forcing Lilith to flee. After Sam and Dean leave, Chuck has a vision which he rushes to tell the boys but is stopped by Zachariah.

Chuck finished his manuscript page of " - Lucifer Rising", and is seen ordering some girls for the night on the phone. He hangs up when he sees Castiel and Dean popping into his house, and is shocked, as he hadn't foreseen what was happening. Dean looks over the story for Sam's location and discovers he's at St. Mary's Convent; Chuck tells them this is not what's supposed to happen and is told they're making it up as they go. Raphael then arrives, forcing Castiel to send Dean alone to stop Sam; as Castiel waits for the archangel to appear, Chuck sees his expression and puts his hand on Castiel's shoulder but removes it once Castiel glares at him.

Season 5

To save the Winchesters from Lucifer who was released from his cage, God teleported them on an airplane, as they wondered what brought this about.

When Dean and Sam go to Chuck's house to find Castiel, Chuck attacks Sam with a plunger; he is amazed to see that Sam is alright, as in his last vision, Sam went "full on Vader" and his eyes turned black like a demon. Dean then asks Chuck where Castiel is, and the prophet tells them that the archangel destroyed him. While Dean and Sam are talking, Chuck interrupts them saying that he can hear the angels talk, and Zachariah and two other angels then teleport inside Chuck's home. Zachariah attempts to get Dean to come with them after explaining that they need to strike now before Lucifer finds his vessel, but Dean refuses and banishes the three angels using a blood seal. Chuck reacts bitterly at what has befallen him.

Chuck contacts Becky Rosen

Later, Chuck is seen speaking with Becky Rosen through a video web chat. He tells her that everything in his books is real and that he needs her to give Dean and Sam a message since he is being watched. When Becky finds the brothers, she tells them that Chuck's message is that he had a vision that Michael's sword is on Earth and that the angels lost it. Sam asks if Chuck knew where it was, but Becky says it's in a castle on top of a hill made up of 42 dogs, which made no sense to them. Dean later figured out that Chuck was referring to a business card his father had for Castle Storage in upstate New York on 42 Rover Hill. When Zachariah has them in a trap, God resurrects Castiel to help them. Castiel hinted at God's involvement in his return and the Winchester's rescue from Lucifer both of which surprised Zachariah and caused him to retreat.

In The End, Zachariah sends Dean to an alternate timeline, where the Apocalypse is ongoing, God disguised as Chuck from the alternate future timeline becomes a member of Camp Chitaqua, serving under his leader Dean. When Dean Winchester from 2009 is transported to this alternate timeline by Zachariah, Chuck pretends to mistake him for his leader, and asks what he should do with the lack of supplies, especially ones for hygiene. Confused, Dean simply tells him to share stuff until Chuck remembers that Dean should be on a mission at the moment.

Chuck pretends to become terrified however, when fellow Camp member Risa appears and accuses Dean of sleeping with Jane the night before. Dean ducks behind Chuck and uses him as a shield, feeling baffled by Risa's words. When he asked if he did, Chuck nodded. Risa is furious, having thought the two had "a connection". When Chuck tries to greet Risa, Risa tells him to "screw it". Dean then asks Chuck if Castiel is still around, and Chuck assures him that Castiel isn't going anywhere.

Sometime later, after it has been revealed that there are two Dean's and one is from the past, Chuck greets Past Dean with a bit of enthusiasm, and instructs him to hoard toilet paper once he returns to '09. Afterwards, Chuck joins the remainder of the group on a final mission to confront a pack of Croatoan zombies and demons and act as bait for the two Deans.

Chuck speaks at a Supernatural convention.

Becky stole Chuck's phone to trick Sam and Dean into coming to a convention. There, Chuck is a guest speaker and answers question about his novel, much to Sam and Dean's displeasure. Chuck is also crushing on Becky, who at the moment is crushing on Sam. Chuck also reveals at the convention that "" will start publishing again. Sam and Dean try talk Chuck out of it, and Chuck responds by telling them he makes his living by writing these stories. Then it just so happens that the hotel is really haunted and Sam and Dean work to get rid of it; while Sam and Dean work, Chuck distracts everyone in the main hall from the fact there really are ghosts in the hotel. When the hotel manager gets annoyed, he attempts to leave and breaks the line of salt, forcing Chuck to use the Mic stand to disperse the ghost. This impresses Becky and later on in the episode she 'breaks it off' with Sam.

During Dark Side of the Moon, God has Joshua save Sam and Dean from Zachariah in Heaven. Joshua scares Zachariah into complying by using the threat of God's wrath when he returns to Heaven. Joshua later tells the brothers that God was in fact on Earth and God contacts him to talk and not the other way around. Joshua gives them God's message for the two to back off from finding him as he knew what was transpiring but felt that the Apocalypse wasn't his problem. Joshua even listed the interventions God has done such as putting them on the plane, resurrecting Castiel and letting them enter Heaven, despite some of their actions. At the end, the brothers are resurrected with Castiel abandoning his search for God.

During Two Minutes to Midnight, Death mentions God to Dean and explains part of their history together. He also states at the end, he'll reap God too. Dean was shocked to hear this, with Death explaining God will die as well.

Chuck disappears after completing the manuscript

Chuck narrated the story of the Winchesters' Impala; its history, and what it meant to Sam and Dean versus anyone else. Dean calls Chuck for the location of the final showdown of Lucifer and Michael, and despite the angels not wanting Chuck to see it, he tells Dean it'll be at noon in Stull Cemetery near Lawrence, Kansas. At the end of the episode, Chuck finishes his story and vanishes from his chair. Beforehand, as God, Chuck resurrected Castiel once again, upgrading him to the rank of Seraphim.

Season 6

Castiel doubted Dean's claim of God delivering divine justice. Balthazar mentions to Castiel of their father leaving and being able to make their own choices. While fighting Castiel, Raphael doubted that God would resurrect him a third time.

Castiel prays to God to ask if his actions against his friends by aligning with Crowley to stop Raphael were justified but gets no answer. Castiel is left saddened by his father ignoring him.

Season 7

Chuck was mentioned by Dean, who initially forgot the prophet's name. Becky also mentions Chuck breaking up with her when trying to make Sam her lover.

After Castiel's death, God resurrected him again though without his memories. Castiel speculated that this was a punishment for his actions rather than a reward like before.

Season 8

After Kevin Tran became a prophet, Dean asks what happened to Chuck, and Castiel admits that he is most likely dead; he wasn't able to find him or determine what happened to him, but there can only be one prophet at a time so Chuck must have died in order for Kevin to become a prophet. Charlie Bradbury later reveals that all of his books are now on the Internet.

Season 9

Becky Rosen was mentioned to have posted all of Chuck's unpublished works to the Internet as well as the published ones.

Metatron mentioned how he has read Chuck's books and threw a copy of Tall Tales into the fireplace. Although he found them distasteful, they gave him the idea to persuade Castiel to be the leader of the rebellious angels with the help of the archangel Gabriel. A copy of A Very Supernatural Christmas can also be seen on Metatron's desk.

Season 10

Chuck returns.

Marie made a play based on Chuck's books, which Calliope attacked. After the play, Chuck is shown alive as he appeared at the theater claiming the ticket that Marie left for "the publisher." When asked by Marie what he thought of the play, despite its problems, he replied with a "Not bad."

Castiel reveals at one point that when God brought him back, he did not resurrect Jimmy Novak.

In Brother's Keeper, Death revealed that before Creation, there was Amara, a "horribly destructive, amoral force" that God and his archangels went to war with. After they defeated the Darkness, God trapped it and created the Mark of Cain as the lock on its prison. As long as someone had the Mark, the Darkness would remain locked up. God gave the Mark to his trusted lieutenant, Lucifer, and it corrupted him into being jealous of humanity, forcing God to have Michael banish him into Hell.

Season 11

In O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Amara tried to find her younger brother to settle their old score. To upset her brother, she killed some of his favorite creations, humans. She demanded he show himself, and even tried to reach him through prayer which proved unsuccessful. She eventually met Dean since those killings caught his attention. The Darkness teleports herself and Dean away and explains that she has no problem with his brother's creation at all. She accuses him of spreading lies about her after she had been sealed away. Amara claims that her brother sealed her away because he feared that her creations might turn out to be better than his own.

Meanwhile, Sam meets Lucifer in Hell to ask him for help in their fight against the Darkness. Lucifer mentions that The Darkness is equal to God in raw power, but Amara lacks strategy and experience while he describes God as a master strategist.

God reveals himself to Metatron.

In Don't Call Me Shurley, God transports Metatron and his new pet dog to the "safest place ever created", which is a bar. At first, Metatron speaks to him as if he were simply Chuck Shurley, even criticizing his books but he is surprised when the latter reveals he was aware of the many things Metatron did, like burning one of his books, by being nigh-omniscient. God then gives the surprised Metatron sunglasses as he reveals his true form causing Metatron to take back much of what he said.

This surprise encounter leaves Metatron practically speechless as God reveals he now has Dean's Amulet and that the reason no one was able to detect him was because he chose not to be found. God, or by his preferred name "Chuck", requests Metatron to team up with him again to write a book, specifically an auto-biography. At first, Metatron is excited, even asking to be an angel again but God laughingly denies it as Metatron agrees. The two get to work and Metatron soon realizes a lot of it is poorly written and that God has chosen not to interfere with the current state of the world, due to disappointment in his creations. God takes Metatron with him to a forest where they talk about humanity and other things. Metatron then correctly deduces that God had begun writing his book when The Darkness was unleashed.

When Metatron berates God, calling him a "coward", God angrily throws him out the bar, to which a gleeful Metatron comments that he is being his old self again. Chuck/God gets serious as he tells Metatron that he was made a scribe because he was the angel close to the door as he voices his disappointment in both humans and angels by describing and showing their actions. He soon tries to get Metatron to understand how enjoyable life as Chuck was, and although he loves the Winchesters, he is tired and is willing to let his sister shine.

Dean's amulet starts to glow.

Metatron does eventually manage to convince his father that by giving up, he is worse than humanity; for all their flaws, they never give up. Finally realizing his own error, God sings a song as he disperses the fog unleashed by Amara, cures all the infected humans and resurrects those who died during the crisis. He also gives back Dean's amulet, as the Winchesters use it to find Chuck helping people in the middle of the road. As the amulet burns bright in his presence, God turns to the surprised Winchesters, admitting that they need to talk.

As Dean voices his distrust in him, God then teleports himself and the Winchesters to the Bunker. While there the shocked brothers discover Kevin Tran, who had been stuck in the Veil all along as he tells them to trust God. To further prove his identity, God deceitfully sends Kevin to Hell but says he sent him to Heaven.

God and the Winchesters later spend time opening up to one another, with Sam showing delight in meeting him as he tells him to call him Chuck. God soon notices Dean showing frustration and calls him out on it, Dean voices his anger at the lack of intervention on God's part. God explains that although he understands, he had been "hands-on" for "ages", which he called "enabling", but nothing changed, so he chose to step back, and let his creations find their way. God then tells Dean that he is aware of his hard life but says not to confuse him with his own father.

When the brothers bring up Lucifer, God is immediately angered by their suggestion they save him so he can help, bitterly expressing his disappointment and raging on how Amara could have forged an alliance with Lucifer. This causes discomfort for Sam and Dean, who later learn from Metatron that God had, before meeting them, planned on sacrificing himself to the Darkness to give humanity a chance.

Dean confronts God on his decision.

Dean decides to confront God on his decision. They meet at a park where kids are playing in a sandbox. God admits that he is planning to let the "chosen ones" deal with Amara, and explains that this is the reason he saved Dean "all those years ago". Dean argues that it is up to God to fight his sister, as the task is too big for him. Their conversation ultimately convinces God to change his plans.

Later, while watching television, God meets the appointed prophet Donatello Redfield who is greatly amazed to see him as he eases the latter's worries about his previous lack of belief in him by telling him that he was given free will.

During the rescue mission of Lucifer, Sam and the Impala get caught by Amara while transporting a badly wounded Lucifer and Donatello back to the Bunker. Before an enraged Amara can harm them, God teleports the entire vehicle to the inside of the Bunker, thus saving everyone.

When the trio arrive in the main room, God greets them saying that he does occasionally answer prayers. This is when God meets Lucifer for the first time since he ordered his imprisonment in the Cage eons ago. They greet each other by admitting how the other person has changed, though God notes that he himself is "pretty much the same". He then heals Lucifer and his vessel of all the wounds dealt upon him by Amara.

While Dean and Sam are out, God has a chat with Lucifer, which escalates to Lucifer getting angry at God for "not saying it". God tells the Winchesters that Lucifer wants an apology, but God doesn't feel sorry for what he did. Upon being reminded the importance of God and Lucifer working together, God agrees to have a proper chat with Lucifer.

Lucifer confronts God on his actions.

At first, God's apology comes out as unsatisfactory. God tries to remind Lucifer the necessity of his punishment, how it was for the sake of God's creations. Lucifer argues, saying that God had given him the Mark and didn't take responsibility when it corrupted him. God sends Sam and Dean away and starts apologizing to Lucifer properly, admitting that Lucifer was indeed his favorite son and he was wrong to put the blame on him.

Reconciled, God and Lucifer join Sam and Dean to formulate a plan on how to defeat Amara. God admits that it would take more time than they had to resurrect Gabriel and Raphael, and Michael is in no shape to fight. So they gather demons, angels and witches to substitute the three archangels.

The team meet up at a warehouse, where God formally meets Rowena MacLeod and Crowley who he tells that he's been rooting against them both for some time. He goes over the plan and tells them inside of the building is where Amara will be attacked by their new army. Amara eventually stumbles in, heavily wounded, and gets further wounded by Lucifer's Spear. God and Amara have a talk, with Amara accusing God of thinking only of his ego and not considering her needs. Though sympathetic, God chooses to lock her away and begins handing the Mark to Sam, but Amara interrupts him, and in a fit of rage, she attacks God and Lucifer, expelling the latter from his vessel and fatally wounding the former.

God is left unconscious and slowly dying on the floor, while Amara leaves fully healed, promising he will live to see the destruction of all his creations.

Shortly after, God is woken by Sam and admits that Amara is right, he is fatally wounded and only Amara could possibly heal what was done to him. God teleports the Winchesters, Castiel (who was freed), Crowley and Rowena back to the Bunker, after seeing the sun slowly going out as a result of God's condition. God remains mostly quiet while the team prepare a soul bomb.

Once Dean is ready, God teleports Dean to Amara's location while he and the rest of the team wait inside a bar. God is eventually teleported by Amara to her location. Amara reveals that she no longer wants her revenge and that she deeply misses him.

The Darkness and God leave the Earth.

Amara further admits that his creations are beautiful and she had grown jealous when, after so long of it being just the two of them, he created other things. Amara asks for God's forgiveness and to have her brother back and God grants it. Amara heals God, without difficulty, of the fatal injuries she inflicted upon him, repairing the damage his slow death was doing to the universe.

After being healed, God removes the soul bomb from Dean and tells Dean that he and Amara are leaving the Earth to work out their differences for real. God tells Dean he's leaving the safety of the Earth to him and after Amara promises a thank you gift for Dean, he turns into a stream of light and ascends into the sky with his sister who turns into a stream of darkness.

Season 12

In Mamma Mia, Crowley tells Lucifer that God has "gone on sabbatical" again and suggests he retake Heaven in God's absence. Lucifer refuses to consider the idea.

In American Nightmare, Gail Peterson asks the Winchesters if they know God. Dean tells her that they do and that "we're besties." Gale, who is shown to be mentally disturbed, claims that after a car accident God spoke to her telling her to live a simple life. Gale also believes that her daughter Magda is possessed by Lucifer and they are doing God's work by keeping her locked away and torturing her.

In Rock Never Dies, Lucifer accuses God of abandoning him again as the reason he has decided to disregard his creations and go about slaughtering them.

In LOTUS, after being told she's in the presence of a witch, an angel and the King of Hell, Kelly Kline responds with "oh God", causing Castiel to tell her "no, he left."

In the Season 12 finale, All Along the Watchtower, Sam tells Lucifer during their confrontation, that God stopped him last time he wanted to destroy the world, and that he would again. Lucifer only responded by mocking this, believing that God left and would not help defeat him.

Season 13

In Lost & Found, Dean prays to Chuck after Castiel's death. Dean demands that Chuck make everything right by bringing back Castiel, Mary Winchester and even Crowley, but Chuck doesn't answer. Dean later tells Sam about this and states that "God's not listening. He doesn't give a damn."

In The Rising Son, when prophet Donatello Redfield finds Sam, Dean and Jack, he asks if God is with them.

In The Big Empty, Castiel awakens in The Empty where The Shadow reveals that the Empty existed before God or Amara. He also states that not even God has influence over the Empty, only the Entity.

During Tombstone, a resurrected Castiel is reunited with the Winchesters with Sam asking if God had a role in bringing him back but Castiel states the latter has no power in The Empty.

In A Most Holy Man, Father Lucca Camilleri tells Dean to have faith that God will see them through, but Dean scoffs at the idea. Dean admits that he knows that God exists, but believes that God doesn't care about any of them and won't help. Lucca explains to Dean that he doesn't literally expect God to show up and perform a miracle but that he sees good acts as being God's work. This causes Dean to let go some of his old resentment towards God for not helping.

During Bring 'em Back Alive, after helping with an exorcism Lucifer mentioned to a pair of humans that God made him seem like the bad guy before stating it worked out since he is now running Heaven. The humans are horrified by this before Lucifer kills them out of annoyance. Angry, Lucifer returned to Heaven upset and rants that humanity and angels have note appreciated him and his father has made him the villain in their eyes. He then decides he should find his son and rule the world together so that everyone will worship him.

Castiel later implores Gabriel (who faked his death and hid himself) to help them save Mary and Jack and not to walk out on his father's work. Gabriel stated his father turned his back on things and he supposes it runs in the family before he left the bunker.

In Exodus, Lucifer told Jack about his other family like his grandfather. Jack inquired about God but Dean cuts Lucifer off before he can give some details. Lucifer and Jack continued the talk with Gabriel as Lucifer brings up his past imprisonment but admits he should have gave his father a break after admitting being a father is hard. Gabriel stops Lucifer by defending God's choices and later calls Lucifer a cancer that needed to be removed.

Season 14

During Stranger in a Strange Land, Jamil Hamed mistakes the Alternate Michael for God before the latter tells him otherwise.

In Gods and Monsters, Michael states that God is on permanent vacation when talking to werewolves.

In Byzantium, Anubis reveals that God has no say in where the human soul goes after death once he left Heaven, and that it now depends on the choices made by humans. He will intervene on occasion such as letting both John Winchester and Bobby Singer in Heaven despite it being said that once a soul goes to hell, they can't enter heaven.

In Nihilism, the Alternate Michael mentions to Castiel that his world's God left just like the main world. He goes on by revealing in his world that he waited for God's return after the fight with his Lucifer but nothing happened. He goes on by stating in his time in the main world and from Dean's mind, that God was a writer and deems the worlds he crafts as drafts of books and when the drafts disappoint, God moves on and continues to try. Michael ends his rants by declaring God doesn't care and his intentions to kill him, as Castiel is disgusted by this.

During Peace of Mind, the mad psychic Chip Harrington believed his powers made him a God. However, Sam debunked this by stating he's met God and Castiel further interjects that the real God has a beard.

In Game Night, Castiel sought Anael's help in trying to contact God as she had worked closely with Joshua in Heaven before the fall. Castiel believed that God was the only one that could restore a soul as God was the inventor of souls. Castiel used a device to communicate with God and beg for his help on Jack but seemingly receives no answer.

Sam and Dean turn against Chuck.

During Moriah, God returned to Earth and appeared to Castiel who questioned his presence. God then revealed that he actually did receive Castiel's prayer, before teleporting them to the Winchesters' location. God's reunion with them was not well, since they stated they needed him and he intimidated them to stopping. He teleports them all to the bunker where he cancels out Jack's influence on everyone of not lying. God soon revealed that he had no method in helping with Jack and opted to have them kill him instead. God shows a gun that he states is capable of destroying anything and its power to destroy the user as well. Later on, he is questioned by Sam on the alternate worlds and his part on them, remaining vague but confirming Sam and Dean of this universe was his favorite. He puts off Sam's resentment of him and Dean always having to save the world and reminds him to focus on Jack, which causes Sam to realize God is scared of Jack, which God didn't deny, even stating Sam is scared of Jack, and reveals he already told Dean where Jack is and Dean is heading there to kill him.

God smites Jack

When Sam arrived to Jack's location, he saw God already there and watching the events unfold while smiling and preventing Sam from interfering. After Dean refused to shoot Jack, God was angrily surprised, while revealing his presence, shocking Jack at seeing him. God states he wanted Dean to kill Jack because it would be like a father killing a son and make epic story, and pushed back against Sam's accusations of him playing them all and pleaded with Dean to kill Jack, promising to bring Mary back, but Team Free Will saw through his ploy and accused him of manipulating events, with Dean telling him to go to hell. Having had enough, God coldly smiles and tells them to have it their way and personally kills Jack and flings Dean away when he tries to stop him. Though Sam shoots at him with the Equalizer, he survived since he was shot in the shoulder and not a mortal shot. This blow also injured Sam in his shoulder. Enraged by their audacity, God declares the end of the world and then plunged the world into chaos to punish humanity for their defiance, unleashing souls from Hell to wipe them all out.

Season 15

In Back and to the Future, the demon Belphegor reveals that all the doors in Hell were opened and initially believed the Winchesters were responsible until they reveal it was God. Belphegor didn't believe it, though he saw that they were serious. Belphegor later reveals that God also opened Lucifer's Cage, meaning that Michael is potentially loose as well. Castiel and Sam later saved civilians from ghosts, while bringing up Sam shooting God. At the end, Sam and Dean bring up God's treatment of worlds like drafts and decide to go against him to truly be free of the supernatural, believing that as God has now abandoned their world, they will finally be free of his influence if they can win.

Amara refuses to help Chuck.

In Raising Hell, God seeks out the help of Amara in Reno to heal his wound from The Equalizer. The wound is shown to have created a link between God and Sam with Sam feeling God's pain when God pushes on the wound. Amara realizes that God has been left diminished and weakened by the shot and is afraid. Amara refuses to help her brother, stating that she has changed while he remains the same petulant and narcissistic being he always was. According to Amara, while God can still do "a few parlor tricks," he is too weak to even leave the world without her help which she refuses to give. Amara abandons her brother, comparing trapping him on Earth to how he once trapped her. As she leaves, Amara tells God that he's finally got what he always wanted: he's alone. God watches helplessly as Amara departs.

At the same time, the Winchesters learn that God had lied about sending Kevin Tran to Heaven and instead cast the young Prophet's soul into Hell. Kevin is released by God unleashing all the souls of Hell upon the world, but Belphegor reveals that once a soul has been cast to Hell, it cannot enter Heaven. Sometime later, the souls of Hell learned of God being the one who released them and decided to destroy the weakest spot on the barrier. Belphegor speculates that God let in John Winchester and Bobby Singer when they escaped from Hell because he liked the Winchesters, but without God on their side, there's no getting Kevin into Heaven.

Becky is horrified at Chuck's idea for an ending.

During Atomic Monsters, God goes to the house of Becky Rosen and begs for help. However, Becky tells him to leave because of how she is moving on with her life and has realized what she did to Sam was wrong. After he pleas to her, she reluctantly lets him in her home. They catch up with him revealing his falling out with the Winchesters and his sister. After Becky describes her own life with a family and selling supernatural merchandise, he notes that she's doing pretty well for herself. Chuck soon reveals that he has had writers block, as she helps him get over it and he creates a draft of a story. After finishing, he has Becky read it but sees she is trying to hide criticisms of it but this motivates Chuck to go deeper into his writing. Once he is done, Becky reads it and is horrified and tries to talk him out of the ending but Chuck is insistent, describing it is the perfect way to end the story. Becky then hears her husband arrive and tells Chuck to leave but he refuses, stating he likes her home. When Rod approaches, God greets him and with a wave of his hand, causes Rod to disappear and Becky is horrified by this display. God then reveals to Becky that he is not a prophet but actually God. When Becky's kids approach, God causes them to disappear as well but reassured her that they are alive. Becky begs him to bring them back, though her pleas are ignored and he sends her away like her family, stating he can do whatever he wants because he's a writer. God then takes Becky's house as his new residence to write.

In Proverbs 17:3, God is revealed to have resurrected Lilith as part of his plans and sends her to find and destroy the Equalizer. Lilith reveals that God intends for Sam and Dean to kill each other in the end and Sam speculates that using the Equalizer on God created a link between them, resulting in Sam seeing God's potential endings for Sam and Dean in the form of his nightmares.

In Last Call, Castiel reveals that the bullet from the Equalizer was a piece of Sam's soul, meaning that a piece of Sam's soul exists inside of God. Castiel suggests using this to see into God's mind, but when Castiel probes the wound, Sam is violently rendered unconscious and experiences several of God's recent memories, including getting shot with the Equalizer, Amara refusing to help and God talking to Becky.

After Dean returns to find Sam awakened by Sergei, Sam tells him that he feels like he was in God's head and saw some of his memories. Sam reveals to Dean, Castiel and Eileen Leahy that God is weak and he believes they can beat God.

In Our Father, Who Aren't in Heaven, God is in a casino, playing slots and is winning the jackpot with every spin. All around him are the bodies of all the people who worked or were playing in the casino. A sole waitress is left alive and tensely navigates her way passed the bodies to deliver him a cocktail. He asks if she went easy on the rum and she nervously tells him that she did. He replies that was good as she wouldn't want him to be cranky. He then tells her to keep them coming as he keeps playing on the slots, glum and irritable.

When Sam, Dean and Castiel find Donatello and bring him to the bunker to search the Demon Tablet for anything that they could use against God. He asks why they don't just kill God but Sam explains that God has to exist for the cosmic balance to be maintained so the best thing they can do to stop him would be to seal him up the same way that he sealed Amara. As he goes through the tablet, Donatello finds that Metatron made annotations where he deduced that God had a secret fear that he guarded and it was always present but only shared what it was with his favorite. They then conclude that the favorite was Michael. Donatello gets frustrated when the Winchesters explain that Michael is in Hell and it wouldn't be easy to speak to him about how to seal God up when he suddenly stops and passes out in his chair. He then seemingly comes to and starts speaking about how the story just keeps getting "better and better". When Dean simply assumes that Donatello is going crazy, God reveals himself and explains that he can speak through prophets. He then threatens them to let their current plans go or he would go "all-powerful" on all of their friends first before moving on them.

While Michael and his vessel Adam are talking in a diner, Lilith appears to the surprise of the archangel as she was supposed to be dead. She informed Michael that God had returned and he wished to speak with him. Michael accused her of lying, as he couldn't believe that his father would send a demon to get him. Lilith reminded Michael that the two had worked together in the past, to start the Apocalypse to try and bring God back. He told her that if she was telling the truth then God could come and get him himself and told her to leave but Lilith became insistent. She told him that she couldn't fail God but Michael responded by smiting her.

After learning that Michael was no longer in Hell and was bouncing around the Earth, Castiel prayed to the archangel and told him that he was no longer his enemy and that they all now had the same enemy, God himself. Michael agreed to meet but was skeptical to Castiel's claims and assumed that he was just trying to beg for his forgiveness. Castiel told him he didn't beg and then trapped Michael in Holy Fire and he was then placed in the Supernatural Handcuffs by the Winchesters before being brought to the bunker. Castiel again tried to reason with Michael, telling him that they needed to speak with him because God had truly returned and that the cage "didn't just open on it's own". Michael believed that if his father did truly come back then he would usher in Paradise but Dean told him that God wouldn't as Paradise is boring. He simply wants to be entertained and all of them, including Michael, were just his puppets. Michael angrily accused them of lying and switched control back to Adam so he wouldn't have to listen to more of their claims.

When they were alone, Adam spoke to Michael about how his half-brothers were probably not lying about God. Michael argued in defense of his father though Adam countered that Michael might not know him as well as he thinks and that all parents "keep secrets". When further pressured, Michael admits that it hurts to question it because it would mean that the "Good Son" and "Favorite" doubts his father. Adam wonders if Michael still cares about that seeing as how God had left him in the Cage.

Castiel went to speak to Michael again and the archangel told him that he wouldn't betray his father. Castiel argued that God had betrayed him and then started to goad Michael about how he was never truly God's favorite. When he told him that Lucifer was smart enough to know that God couldn't be trusted, Michael broke composure and grabbed Castiel. Castiel then quickly transmitted his memories to Michael, showing him God's masquerade as the Prophet Chuck, the war with the Darkness, the Apocalypse World Michael, and the murder of Jack. Seeing all of this, Michael had become distraught of how God had lied to him and that he wasn't even the only Michael.

Meanwhile, Eileen Leahy had gotten a call from her hunter friend, Sue Barrish, and told her that she was closing in on a nest of Vampires. Yet, during her call, she had apparently run into trouble and Eileen told Sam and they left together to go and help her out. Yet, when they got there, they found the place empty until Sue appeared, no worse for wear. Eileen thanked God that she was okay and he then appeared, having shapeshifted and tricked them into coming.

Michael decided to help and gave Dean and Castiel a spell that would bind God in the same manner that was used on the Darkness. Yet, to complete the spell they would require the nectar from a Leviathan Blossom which only grows in Purgatory. Michael then created a 12 hour rift for them to collect it but refused to help any further.

In The Trap, Chuck has taken both Sam and Eileen to the casino he'd been holed up at. Sam is tied to a chair but Eileen is bound to one by his power. He then reveals to them both that he had arranged for Sam to find the resurrection spell at Rowena's place, though he had only left half the spell and knew Sam would be able to finish it. When Sam asks him why, he says that he needed to have someone on the inside to be able to see Sam and Dean as he had lost the ability due to the wound he got from the Equalizer. Sam realizes that he was right about Chuck being weak, though Chuck rebuffs him in that he is merely now stuck and can't leave this world as their wounds have connected them. He wants to sever that connection and free himself.

Chuck explains that he use his powers to get rid of his or Sam's wounds so he hopes to find answers to severing the connection through Sam's wound and readies a scalpel to begin cutting into it. However, he senses that Eileen has managed to call Dean on her phone and tried to have him listen in on them and moves to take the phone from her. He quickly says hello to Dean before throwing the phone away and getting back to Sam. However, he finds himself unable to proceed and Sam notices his hesitation. Sam realizes that Chuck, despite his power and everything he has done, he has trouble getting his hands dirty and just likes to watch. After being mocked by Sam and Eileen, he then agrees with them and controls Eileen and has her forcibly being cutting into Sam's wound while he watches.

Yet, as Sam is tortured by Eileen, and persists in hurling insults at Chuck, he loses patience and has her go clean herself off while he heals Sam's injuries. Chuck then suddenly realizes that the reason that Sam is still so defiant with him is that he still has hope. Chuck mocks the fact that Sam believes that Dean and Castiel will arrive in time to save him and Eileen. Chuck then moves to tell him that while there is a small chance that they will beat him, Sam wouldn't want that. Chuck then brings out a pocketwatch which he tells Sam will allow him to look into his future.

He brings Sam to a point a few weeks ahead in a future where they did beat him. Sam is at the bunker with Dean, Eileen and Castiel about to start a movie night after they see there is a lack of cases. Everything seems well until Future Sam gets a call from Jody and she tearfully informs them that she and Claire had been trying to clear out what should've been a small vampire nest but it turned out that there were more vampires than they thought and Claire was now dead. Chuck tells a shocked Sam that there is a lot more to come.

They move a few months further into the future and Sam sees himself in the impala, watching himself look at buildings burning while an upset Dean is at the wheel. Future Sam argues with Future Dean about how they could've saved all the people from their latest hunt but instead had let them all bleed to death. Dean shoots back that there were too many werewolves and they couldn't move in. Future Sam then says that Castiel could've helped them but Dean quickly snaps that he was gone to Present Sam's shock.

Sam gets brought to a further point in time, where he sees his future self preparing to leave to take care of a vampire nest but Dean doesn't want to go. Future Sam worries that Dean is giving up and he admits that has after Castiel went crazy from bearing the Mark of Cain and Dean had to be bury him in a Ma'lak Box to stop him. The monsters have also become more active and have grown dramatically in number and many of their friends have been killed, including Donna, Alex, Patience and Eileen. Future Dean claims that they've lost. Sam then shouts that he knows what Chuck is trying to do and none of what he's seeing is true but Chuck tells him that he's not doing anything as Sam is controlling what he is seeing as he's holding the watch. They look on as Future Sam tells Dean that he is leaving to deal with the nest and he is leaving with or without Dean. Dean picks himself up and goes with him though is unhappy about it. Chuck quickly says that Future Sam should've gone with Future Dean's gut which makes Sam go to turn the watch to see further in the future but can't turn it passed a certain date. Chuck says that it seems that as far as it goes for him.

When Sam chooses to see the final day, he sees both his future self and Dean holding themselves in a motel, getting ready to make a final stand. It is then shown that the two are making their stand against Bobby, Jody and a team of hunters as the two have now become vampires. Future Sam and Dean take out two hunters before Jody moves in and shoots Sam with Dead Man's Blood bullets before Dean goes and kills her. As Future Sam is kneeling from the poison, Future Bobby moves in and decapitates him, which snaps Sam out of the future and back with Chuck, who quickly asks what he thought of what he saw.

Sam tries to deny that what he saw was the truth but Chuck assures him that it was and he thinks its a terrible ending for Sam and Dean's story but it was true and will happen if they go through with their plan. When Sam tries to argue that they will make it better, Chuck amusingly notes that he likes how Sam and Dean always break the rules to be heroes but don't understand the cosmic consequences of their actions as they are still only humans while he is God. Chuck then points out that there was something else to take note of with the future that Sam saw besides his and Dean's fates and Sam realizes that it was the monsters. Chuck quickly explains that if he gets imprisoned then the Law of Nature takes over with dark forces getting the upper hand and monsters will rule. Chuck then asks Sam if he is prepared for that consequence.

Dean and Castiel then arrive, having gone to Purgatory and retrieved the Leviathan Blossom and completed the spell to trap God. Chuck has Eileen attack Castiel while he surprises Dean. Dean punches Chuck to no effect but argues he had to do that. Chuck accepts before launching Dean away. Castiel then throws the spell to Sam so that he could smash it and trap God but hesitates. Chuck asks Sam what will it be and Sam breaks and doesn't use it. Having lost hope, the wounds in both Chuck and Sam heal and Chuck regains his full power. Chuck then goes to destroy the spell to Dean's horror. When Dean asks him what he will do with them now, seeing as he won't kill them, Chuck asks him why he won't. Dean points out that Chuck still wants him and Sam to act out his ending like Sam had seen. Chuck then tells them that the visions Sam had weren't drafts but memories of other versions of them in other worlds. He tells the shocked Winchesters that their other versions also thought they wouldn't act out his endings but ultimately did and they would too before disappearing.

At the Bunker, Sam apologized to Dean and Castiel for not going through with the spell but he told them that he believed everything Chuck told him and still does. Dean accepted and told them that they would find another way to beat Chuck.

In The Heroes' Journey, Sam and Dean begin experiencing regular people issues. Dean gets a parking ticket by parking in front of a hydrant as he usually does and his teeth begin to hurt from cavities while Sam becomes somewhat clumsy and gets sick. The impala also begins breaks down a few miles away from Garth's house, forcing them to walk the rest of the way. The brothers tell Garth and Bess Fitzgerald of how God is trying to kill them, something that shocks them. The pair suggests that as they were the heroes of God's story, he was protecting them from dealing with such issues throughout their lives so the story wouldn't be slowed down. Now that they've fallen out of God's favor, he has downgraded them again, resulting in Sam and Dean becoming 'normal' and now experiencing regular people problems.

After both Dean and Sam fail at picking a lock, Sam wonders if they ever could or if it had been Chuck's doing the whole time. After they barely escape from a job alive, Dean realizes that they can't defeat Chuck if they're 'normal' and set off to try and get their good luck back.

In The Gamblers, the Winchesters attempt to restore their luck at a bar run by the deity Fortuna. Fortuna initially didn’t believe God cursed them until Dean described him and she realized they are being truthful. She soon reveals that the pagan gods were in fact some of God's creations, explaining that when God first created humanity, they didn't worship him, they worshipped things like nature. As a result, God created the deities to take the blame for things going wrong and because they made an epic story. However, his ego could only allow that to last for so long "and now he's happy to hide behind whatever religion has the best syndication deal." However, most pagan gods have forgotten the truth about their existence though Fortuna still recalls and holds a grudge against God. Though the Winchesters lose to Fortuna, she is impressed to meet true heroes, something that she didn't think existed anymore. Fortuna restores the luck God took from Sam and Dean and passes along a message to not play God's game, but to make him play theirs.

Upon returning home, the Winchesters are greeted with a resurrected Jack. Jack, who has been eating angel hearts, explains that he has been hiding from God who is afraid of him. Billie had kept Jack stashed in the Empty until God left the Earth at which point it was safe for him to be resurrected. According to Jack, if he follows Billie's plan exactly, he will become strong enough to kill God.

During Galaxy Brain, God visited Earth 2, where he entered a Radio Shed store and monologue to the staff on his experiences with Sam and Dean before he uses his power to show other worlds on television sets. God decided to eradicate all the parallel worlds for the purpose of keeping the slate clean. God is also mentioned by Jack and Merle to still be able to sense Jack. When the Winchesters question Billie on her reason for killing God. Billie reveals God has a book in Death's Reading Room, since God has woven himself into the fabric of the Multiverse in order to create harmony between the worlds and for his Creation to live on after his demise. Billie calls this God's only weakness and only states that the book shows that the Winchesters and Jack are responsible for God's ultimate destruction. Later, God is shown still on Earth 2, where he watches the destruction of the worlds and when asked by the nervous radio shed worker that he’ll spare his world. Once outside, God promptly sends meteors to destroy the world.

In Destiny's Child, Billie reveals God is nearly done wiping the slate clean and tells them to find the Occultum. Later on, Sam and Dean meet their counterparts and inform them of God watching them, as the pair were amazed by this. Not wanting God aware of their plans, they have them pretend to be him while they go.

In Gimme Shelter, Amara notes that she knows God has been destroying the other universes and is very close to finishing. Amara at first refuses to betray God for the Winchesters but later decides to consider it. Jack later reveals that while he will be able to kill God and Amara, it is by transforming himself into a bomb that when detonated will kill God and Amara and also kill him in process.

In Drag Me Away (From You), Billie confirms God has finished destroying the alternate universes and will soon be back. She also tells Dean that she has given Jack the last step to Jack's transformation into the bomb that will kill God and that she won't be there to help him fight Chuck as in his book, she isn't in the part where Jack kills God.

In Unity, God returns to Earth, releasing meteor showers a day before he finally appears on Earth to greet his sister. He asks Amara to help him so they can reset reality together but is refused and teleported to Heaven. After refusing to abandon his mission to destroy the Universe, Amara teleports him to the Bunker and negates his ability to teleport so Jack and the Winchesters can lock him away. Although angered, God tells Amara the truth: He had knew that Jack was alive and was being turned into a bomb that will kill him. Of course, he really can't read his Death Book but is unconcerned as he controls space and time and is omniscient and scoffs at the idea of them killing him. He appeals to Amara to become one so they can create new things and Amara relents and lets herself be absorbed. However, God's ultimate plan to have Sam and Dean kill each other fails. He is enraged to see them defy him yet again and gives up on it, opting to instead enjoy their reaction to seeing Jack die, before he departs as Jack starts to explode.

In Despair, God wipes out most of humanity from existence except Sam, Dean and Jack, which the Winchesters initially thought to be Billie but in truth it was Chuck. They are left with his Death Book, which Billie previously checked and found the contents satisfying before bringing Jack back and subsequently being forced to escape as Dean wounded her with her Scythe.

In Inherit the Earth, God sadistically wipes out Miracle, the dog that Dean had found, before telling them that their punishment is to live on an empty planet and refusing to bring everyone back even after they surrendered and offered to kill each other. He later resurrects and sends Lucifer to retrieve his Death Book but he is killed by Michael. Michael, desperate to become God's favorite, betrays the Winchesters and Jack and tells God of their plan to kill him. God subdues the Winchesters but refuses to forgive Michael's early betrayal and kills him before beating the Winchesters. However, suddenly they began to laugh, revealing that Jack now stood against him. Despite God trying to kill him, Jack is unaffected, terrifying God, and proceeds to drain him of all his power, rendering Chuck mortal. Amazed to see that he's finally truly defeated, Chuck admits defeat and asks them to kill him, but to his horror, they have no intention to do so. Instead, they intend to spare Chuck, but only because they know that it's better and more satisfying to deny Chuck of both the easy way out and the way he depicted them as, stating that Chuck will live the mundane life of a powerless mortal, get sick, old and eventually die with no one caring or remembering him, making him effectively alone and forgotten, not only returning the same punishment that Chuck tried to inflict on them by wiping out all of humanity but also worse. Chuck desperately begs them for mercy but is ignored as they cruelly leave on the Impala and God collapses to the ground while still groveling and begging them not to leave him.
