Being among the oldest and most powerful entities in all of existence, God possessed immense power, allowing him to do practically anything he wished. The only one known to surpass God's near-infinite power was Amara, his twin sister. God has been said by Billie to be more powerful than the Shadow, the ruler of the Empty, who in turn is more powerful than Billie, the new incarnation of Death. It is not known how the original Death compares to other cosmic entities. But at least after Death met his end, and God himself lost his powers to Jack, God was, without a doubt, in a twofer with his sister as the most powerful beings in all of existence. While he ranked highly even among the cosmic beings, he was beyond comparison with any of his creations. He was immeasurably more powerful than any angel, some of the strongest beings he made, and he could easily negate the powers of archangels, the first and strongest angels. Even Jack, a Nephilim that far surpassed any angel in existence, could be killed by God with a simple gesture when Jack possessed only his native powers. However, God could not only subjugate but also cooperate with his creation. In combination with his archangels, for example, God was able to subdue and lock Amara away, after which he rid the Earth of the entire race of the Leviathans, the first and most powerful beasts, and crafted the universe as we know it, protecting his creation even from the Shadow. In addition, God also seems to have created a large number of parallel universes, or alternate realities, controlling what goes on in each according to his plans and whims, even destroying them after getting tired of, or disappointed in, his work.

Even after being shot at by the Equalizer, and losing some of his abilities as a result, he was still enormously powerful, capable of many rare feats, such as causing the Ghostpocalypse and resurrecting the powerful white-eyed demon Lilith from the Empty. God regained all of his abilities after his and Sam's wounds were healed. Later, however, he lost all of his power in a final showdown against the Winchesters and his grandson Jack, who were predestined in Death's God book to be the ones to bring God to his end.

**Resurrection - God could bring anyone or anything back to life. Due to his lack of interaction or intervention, however, he didn't do this often. **Shapeshifting - God could alter his appearance, changing between his Chuck persona, his true luminous form, and a bright smoke form at will. **Sealing and imprisonment - God was highly skilled in the art of sealing to the point that his seals were considered incomprehensibly powerful, as not even the passage could destroy them, having the ability to block powerful entities in the local dimensions, preventing them from leaving. Thus, Chuck locked Lucifer in Hell, as he did the Shedim. He locked the Leviathans in Purgatory and was able to develop the extremely powerful primordial entity capture spell, so he attached his sister to a mystical seal, which he placed on the archangel Lucifer. In this context, she, who had more power than Chuck, had not been able to escape captivity for billions of years. In fact, God was able to seal Darkness and Death in confinement prisons so strong that both were unable to break free without an external factor.

***Spell Casting - God was able to develop the extremely powerful Primordial Entity Trapping Spell that he successfully cast on the Darkness to confine her within the Mark of Cain. He was also known for having bound Death to his coffin underneath the Earth for thousands of years.

**Soul Control - As the creator of souls, God had a certain level of control over them. He had the power to control the destination of a deceased person's soul, as he was the one who admitted Sam and Dean into Heaven (as revealed by Joshua) after they were killed by Roy and Walt. Along with that, he could allow humans who had fallen to Hell to enter Heaven, having allowed John and Bobby to enter Heaven after they escaped Hell. **Telekinesis - When angered at Metatron for calling him a coward, God telekinetically threw Metatron through the doors of his bar. He could travel across the multiverse, as he was able to visit Earth-2 on his own without a rift opening ritual. *Nigh-Omniscience - Existing for eons, God possessed great wisdom and understanding about the universe he made. Metatron said that God saw everything that happened on Earth. He even knew what people were thinking, proven by the fact that he wrote in one of the books that Sam thought Dean was a dick when they were doing clothes at the laundry mat, and Sam admitted this. He also knew everything that had and would happen with startling detail. God knew about the Impala, its history, and what it meant to Sam and Dean. God might even know about the future actions of his fellow Primordials. Since God recorded everything in the Supernatural Books before they happen, he could've already known about Death's talk with Dean, and that he would give Dean his ring. God also knew every possible future (or rather alternate future) and how things needed to play out in order to reach his desired result. Most importantly, God also had no idea what was in his death book and Billie stated he could never read it unless she let him. Even when the book had been opened by Betty, God could not read it anymore than the Winchesters could.

He also accurately described Sam's eyes turning black and his body temperature rising when he killed Lilith. Jack also noted that using his powers would immediately alert God to his resurrection. However, those of significant power such as Amara could ward themselves against God's sight. The bunker's original cosmic warding was also able to block Jack's opening of a rift to the Bad Place from God's senses. However, he later admitted that he tried to make Dean kill Sam over Jack and, showing no surprise after seeing him, already knew he was alive. Commenting on his imminent death, he seemed even to know about the trial he passed to grew stronger.

***Telepathy - He knew what Sam's thoughts would be about Dean being a dick. God was also able to read and identify the source of Sam's defiance as his belief Dean and Castiel will succeed in trapping him.

***Precognition - God could accurately predict reality to a degree far superior to that of the Archangels, which gave credit to his masquerading as a prophet. He was aware that Lucifer would possess Sam and this decision would be his downfall, something which even Lucifer could not foresee. God was also able to foresee what would become of the world if the Winchesters and Castiel succeeded in locking him away. By using a magical pocket watch, God was able to extend this foresight to Sam so that Sam could see for himself what God had envisioned happening in the future. After being stripped of his powers, God admitted that for the first time he didn't know what was going to come next.

*Omnipresence - In Moriah, when asked where he's been, Chuck said he's been "everywhere and nowhere, to the edge of the universe and beyond". When Jack absorbed God's powers, he became Omnipresent, meaning God was also Omnipresent prior to losing his powers.
+
*Omnipresence - After merging with Amara, God became omnipresent; this became evident when Jack absorbed God's powers (as well as Amara's, who has merged with God), and became omnipresent himself.

*Immortality - God, as being one of the first entities to exist, was immortal. Age, as well as any disease and weapon, were powerless against him. However, Death stated he could die, and Amara managed to fatally wound him where he was about to die after less than a day, before she healed him. Jack could kill God by transforming himself into a bomb that would destroy him.

**Nigh-Invulnerability - The only confirmed being that could kill God was his sister The Darkness, although Death was able to reap God at the end of time. In addition, God only suffered temporary harm when he was shot with the Equalizer, a weapon that God himself had created. Even then, however, as noted by Castiel, none of the many powerful weapons possessed by Dean could harm him. He took a punch from Dean and Sam in the face with no pain and hardly flinching.

**Regeneration - On the rare occasion he was wounded, God could instantly heal all damage. Only tremendously destructive forces could hinder his regeneration. His twin sister, the Darkness, who was even stronger than him, was able to wound him such severely he was dying, and she was the only one who managed to heal him. The Equalizer, a supernatural gun he created in order to kill Jack, the tremendously powerful Nephilim son of the archangel Lucifer, was able to wound him when he was shot with it in the shoulder, which also significantly weakened him, and he was unable to heal the wound or return to full power until he made his shooter, Sam, lose all hope.

As Chuck put it, "Light needs Dark", and "Dark needs Light". If he were killed, reality itself would end. It was said that if both God and Amara were to die, a new balance would be established. In addition, God also maintained the balance between light and darkness and if he were to disappear from the worlds, darkness would prevail.

*Master Strategist and Leader - God is an extraordinarily skilled strategist, referred by Lucifer himself as being a master strategist. Despite his eventual abandonment of his creations, God displayed incredible leadership skills when he personally ruled over Heaven, with Metatron commenting that Heaven was never in a better state since God lead it until Hannah took control, meaning his leadership efficiency was above that of Michael's, and having led the archangels to victory against the Darkness. His strategical genius was displayed in his masquerade as the prophet Chuck Shurley, as God, with only minor interference, was able to set the path for the Winchesters to defeat Lucifer and Michael and avert the Apocalypse without compromising his disguise. God was also able to completely hide himself from both Heaven and Amara when they searched for him, with him using a personally created safe-place to make Amara unable to find him. After revealing himself to the Winchesters and aiding them against his sister, God led a nearly successful attempt to re-imprison Amara, personally coordinating the order of fighters who would go first, only failing at the last moment. Upon finally revealing his true colors and going against the Winchesters, God, despite being diminished from Sam's unexpected shot at him, was able to set the path to him regaining his full powers by first allowing Sam to resurrect Eileen to be able to spy on them and then luring Sam and Eileen to a trap and ultimately convincing Sam into losing hope by revealing the dark future that would take place even if they won. He also came up with another intricate plan to make the Winchesters kill each other by setting up Jack's sacrifice, which while ultimately failing was only because Sam realized the true plans of Billie and not because he, Dean or Castiel were able to figure out God's plans, remaining oblivious until the end. However, he was still tricked in the end when the Winchesters and Jack used Michael to trick him. After his defeat, God admitted that he had never seen an ending where he actually lost.

After his defeat, God admitted that he had never seen an ending where he actually lost. It was later revealed that despite believing he would win, Chuck had a fail safe in place in the form of the Akrida to continue his destruction of all things, showing that even with his belief he couldn’t be defeated, he did acknowledge the need for a backup plan.

*Master Manipulator and Deceiver - God is an extraordinary manipulator and deceiver. He was able to put up such a deceitfully convincing act as just a regular prophet that no one, be it the Winchesters, Castiel and the angels, even Raphael who had personally knew him, suspecting he was God. During Dean's travel to alternate timeline, he blended into the survivor's army with no problem. He also manipulated Sam and Dean into getting into and winning the many challenges they faced and remaining completely untraceable. Even after he revealed himself as God and despite the Winchesters wariness of his lack of interference, God was nearly successful in getting them to kill Jack, exploiting Dean's vengeful rage over Mary's death to easily get him to take the Equalizer to kill Jack to the point not even Sam was able to dissuade him, and his offer to resurrect Mary if he kills Jack was notably able to tempt Dean for a while despite Sam's truthful accusations of his true motives before ultimately failing and forcing God to kill Jack himself. He confirmed that he messed with events just to manipulate the Winchesters to kill each other over Jack's sacrifice, which nearly succeeded as Dean became so obsessed with killing God that he almost killed Sam and it was only the revelation that everything they had done until that point rendered null should he do so did God's plan finally fail. After the failure of his grand plan, God's manipulations ultimately failed him as he was instead tricked and manipulated by the Winchesters into his own defeat.

*Hand-to-Hand Combatant - God has shown to be a formidable hand to hand combatant as shown when he landed several hits on Sam and Dean in their final confrontation, while being able to block all of their attacks. It should be noted that Sam and Dean weren't trying their hardest, as they wanted Chuck to beat them in order to charge Jack's power.

Even though God was one of the most powerful beings in all of existence, even he had weaknesses of his own and he was not completely omnipotent. For example, he was never able to defeat the Darkness all by himself. Defeating and locking her away was a team effort that required that God and his archangels cooperate to weaken her and that a specific spell be performed to imprison her. God does not have the power to open and read the books in Death's library, either, unless Death allows him access to them. And finally, when God was shot by The Equalizer, his powers sharply declined, to the point that he could only do "a few parlor tricks".. In this state, he lost two abilities typical of cosmic beings: travelling freely between parallel realities and spying in the heavily warded Men of Letters bunker. Although God could have, in favorable circumstances, closed the wound caused by the Equalizer even in his weakened state, he was prevented from doing so by Sam, who was connected to God by the wound they both received from the weapon and whose feeling of hope that victory could be achieved against God weighed down on the latter's abilities. To heal, God had to break Sam's will first.

God's vulnerability to the the Equalizer showed that he was not immune to his own power and could create things capable of harming himself. A further demonstration of that fact was seen in the series of rituals that Jack completed in the effort to defeat God. The final ingredient in the ritual was a rib from the body of the first man, Adam, which was imbued with God's power to such an extent that, in combination with Jack's human soul and angelic grace, it would be capable of killing both God and the Darkness.

However, once God was at his full power, he was able to harmlessly destroy the spell.

I can do anything, I'm a writer.
I control space and time, they think they can kill me?
God talking about Team Free Will
in Unity

He was immeasurably more powerful than any Angel, some of the strongest beings he made, and he could easily negate the powers of archangels, the first and strongest angels.[1] Even Jack, a Nephilim that far surpassed any angel in existence, could be killed by God with a simple gesture when Jack possessed only his native powers.

Even after being shot at by the Equalizer, and losing some of his abilities as a result, he was still enormously powerful, capable of many rare feats, such as causing the Ghostpocalypse and resurrecting the powerful white-eyed demon Lilith from the Empty.[2] God regained all of his abilities after his and Sam's wounds were healed. Later, however, he lost all of his power in a final showdown against the Winchesters and his grandson Jack, who were predestined in Death's God book to be the ones to bring God to his end.

  • Nigh-Omnipotence - Being a primordial being, God was immensely powerful. As put by Lucifer, "No one makes dad do anything." although Amara was stronger than him, requiring the aid of his Archangels to be able to defeat her. Even when Castiel was powered by 30+ million souls from Purgatory, Death noted that he was still no God. The immensity of God's power was shown by his ability to create multiple planes of existence, including Hell, Heaven, Purgatory and the whole physical Universe with billions of galaxies, as well as countless other realities.[3] Castiel also said that God was "strong enough to take on Lucifer -- strong enough to stop The Apocalypse."[4][5][6] God's power was shown to be great enough to wipe out or trap an entire species by himself, as he confined the Leviathans to Purgatory and killed all Hellhounds but Ramsey. He even removed the Nephilim from Earth the first time they were walking, despite the Nephilim being a species considerably superior to even Angels, and proved capable of killing the most powerful Nephilim Jack Kline, who could effortlessly kill even archangels, with just a snap of his fingers. Previously, he had undone all of Jack's influence on Earth and created a gun capable of killing Jack with ease. However, it was revealed that Jack could kill God by transforming into a bomb that would destroy God and The Darkness. Even after said gun weakened God's power for a limited amount of time, he was still powerful enough to start the Ghostpocalypse, resurrect Lilith and erase Becky Rosen from existence. He was also far more powerful than the Shadow and was able to exert a certain amount of control over the Empty, with the Shadow admitting that its statements about God having no power over its realm were "sweet little lies," and it also stated that God had the power to restrict it from coming to Earth. With his full powers returned, God proved capable of destroying the alternate realities that he had created, doing so with unnatural disasters, which he stated was mostly easy for him. He was also confirmed to be stronger than Billie, who was shown to be inferior to the Shadow, and she showed fear at the prospect of God discovering her plans. Later on, he and Amara merged, making him more powerful than before, giving him the ability to completely reset reality. The individual powers God has shown included, but were not limited to:
    Heaven

    Heaven, one of his creations

    • Absorption - In Unity, God was able to absorb Amara into himself, although he didn't do this through raw power, rather he and Amara came to an understanding and she agreed to merge with him.
    • Astral Projection - God revealed light that normally shrouds his true form if not his divine form to Metatron.
    • Biokinesis - God was able to cleanse Sam of his demon blood addiction[7] and an entire town of a Rabid infection.[8] With just a shush motion, he silenced Eileen as he had her torture Sam.[9] He also used this ability to cause pain to the Winchesters.[10]
    • Conversion - He transformed Castiel, a regular angel, into a Seraphim.[4] Metatron also noted that God has the power to convert him back to an angel after his grace was removed and he was rendered human, although God refused to do so as a punishment for Metatron's sinister deeds.[8]
    • Electromagnetic Interference - With a simple hand movement, God made the TVs in his bar turn on to news stations regarding the spread of The Darkness' Fog.[8]
    • Flight - In his smoke form, he could fly in the air.
    • Healing - God possessed the ability to heal any type of injury. His healing powers were so strong that he could even heal the most serious of damages, caused by any primordial being. With a simple finger movement, God healed Lucifer of the extensive injuries inflicted upon him by Amara.[11] After his failed attempt at getting Eileen to dig out the thing that was keeping his and Sam's mutual wound from healing, God healed the damage Eileen caused with just a wave of his hand. However, the wound from the Equalizer was not healed. After Sam gave up hope, God was able to heal both his and Sam's wound from the Equalizer simultaneously, restoring God's powers.[9]
    • Localization - God could find any being in existence, provided they were not warded against him. He was able to easily locate Jack in order to send Dean to kill him, whereas Asmodeus, all of Hell's resources and even Lucifer could not locate him when he didn't want to be found. Jack even stated that Billie had to hide him in the Empty in order for God not to locate him.
    • Memory Manipulation - When he resurrected Castiel the third time, he suppressed his memories, albeit temporarily.[12]
    • Mind Control - God could force humans to do actions against their will.[9]
    • Power Granting - When God resurrected Castiel for the second time, he granted him greater powers and promoted him to the rank of a Seraph.[4] By touching certain objects, he created the Hands of God, which are powerful enough to at least harm an archangel with a single blow.[13] Metatron also hinted that God could restore his status as an angel, with God refusing to do so. He also gave himself the ability to play the guitar and speak French.[8] He later granted Sam temporary immunity to magic.[1]
    • Power Negation - God was able to render Lucifer powerless as a "safeguard" against him harming anybody when they assembled in the Men of Letters bunker.[1] He was also able to turn off a necklace that burns hot in his presence.
    • Reality Warping - His power was so great that reality shaped itself according to his will. God was even able to undo the havoc caused by Amara in a particular case, by suppressing her infectious fog and resurrecting everybody who had died because of her influence.[8] He was also able to undo the chaos caused by Jack in the world with a snap of his fingers, leaving everything as if it had never happened. He even managed to trigger the second apocalypse by, as mentioned by Belphegor, opening all the gates to hell, including the one to Lucifer's Cage.[14] While playing a slot machine, Chuck made himself win every turn. God was also capable of altering the Winchesters so that they would not suffer any regular illness and downgrading them after they turned against him. He was able to alter the televisions of RadioShed of Earth-2 to display the alternate realities and without even being there, was able to destroy them, although he admitted there were some worlds that needed more effort.[15]
      • Conjuration - He created the Archangels, the Leviathans, the Hellhounds, the Angels, Humans, Souls, as well Heaven, Purgatory, Earth, and countless other Galaxies and the universe itself. Prior to the creation of the current universe, God created other worlds, but Amara destroyed them all.[8] However, Metatron stated that while holding the power needed to create everything on his own, God could not have done it with a snap of his fingers, implying it required a considerable amount of power. As the creator, God could conjure up 10,000 suns set to supernova. He was also described as the only being capable of creating angels. Even Jack, who was an immensely powerful being, could only forge human souls into angels and couldn't create them out of thin air. When Sam, Dean, and Castiel needed his help defeating the immensely powerful Jack, he was able to create a gun capable of killing him instantly with no visible effort.[3] In addition, the gun God created was shown to be so powerful that a shot to the shoulder was able to severely weaken God and leave him diminished.[16] In order to destroy Earth-2, God conjured meteors from above to wipe them out.[15] He was also able to create the Akrida, a race of beings powerful enough to wipe out all existence in case God fails.
    • Weather Manipulation - God unleashed a cataclysmic storm on The Bad Place to destroy it and he also caused several severe weather phenomena in other alternate realities to begin their destruction.[15]
    • Pyrokinesis - God ended one of the alternate realities by causing a massive fire to burn them all down.[15] Billie also noted that God destroyed the last alternate world by burning it alive.[17]
      • Explosion Induction - God was able to induce an explosion to destroy HunterCorp world.[18]
    • Resurrection - God could bring anyone or anything back to life. Due to his lack of interaction or intervention, however, he didn't do this often. He "rebuilt" Castiel several times despite Castiel being obliterated without any trace left and resurrected everyone killed by Amara's fog with ease.[8] He revealed that while he did have the power to do so, it would take a considerable amount of time to resurrect archangels, as they were "the stuff of primordial creation".[1] God offered to resurrect Mary Winchester if Dean killed Jack, but Dean refused the offer.[3] Despite his weakened state, God was able to resurrect the demon Lilith from the Empty.[2] Later, God was able to instantly resurrect Lucifer from the Empty, however Lucifer was already awake at the time and God's power was boosted by merging with Amara.[10]
    • Shapeshifting - God could alter his appearance, changing between his Chuck persona, his true luminous form, and a bright smoke form at will. God has shown the ability to seamlessly shapeshift into other beings in a manner similar to Asmodeus, taking on the appearance of a hunter to trick Eileen Leahy and then shifting back once Sam and Eileen had fallen into his trap.[9]
      God shapeshifting

      Chuck tricks Sam and Eileen

    • Sealing and imprisonment - God was highly skilled in the art of sealing to the point that his seals were considered incomprehensibly powerful, as not even the passage could destroy them, having the ability to block powerful entities in the local dimensions, preventing them from leaving.
      • Spell Casting - God was able to develop the extremely powerful Primordial Entity Trapping Spell that he successfully cast on the Darkness to confine her within the Mark of Cain. He was also known for having bound Death to his coffin underneath the Earth for thousands of years.
    • Soul Control - As the creator of souls, God had a certain level of control over them. He was later able to summon the ghost of Kevin Tran to him without visible effort and with a wave of his hand, removed him from the Veil and supposedly ascended his soul into Heaven.[11] It was later revealed that Chuck lied and cast Kevin into Hell.[16] Lore states that he can restore souls that are completely gone,[19] but God said that souls could be complicated, even for him.[3]As the Garden of Eden, which God created, can restore souls, it is likely he was lying about his capability to restore one's soul.

    • Super Stamina - God possessed eternal stamina and didn't require sustenance, sleep, or oxygen to maintain himself.
    • Super Strength - God was able to effortlessly backhand Dean away and stun him with that single blow.[9] Later, he easily knocked around Sam and Dean with no visible effort, delivering a brutal beating that broke several bones.[10]
    • Supernatural Concealment - While taking the form of Chuck, God was able to conceal himself from angels and the Archangels. It has also been shown that Amara couldn't find him at will.[6][11]
      • Invisibility - He could only be seen when he wanted to be seen.
    • Supernatural Perception - God could see and sense things that are naturally invisible to humans.
    • Smiting - With just a snap of his fingers, God was able to smite Jack with a similar effect to an angel, although this version was much slower and more painful.[3] He later smote Amara's masseuse, showing that even in his weakened state he still possessed this power.[16] He tried this again on Jack, but it didn't work due to all of the power that Jack had absorbed already.[10]
    • Telekinesis - When angered at Metatron for calling him a coward, God telekinetically threw Metatron through the doors of his bar. While other beings seemingly need to use gestures or bodily movements to perform telekinesis, God only needed to get up and look at Metatron to make him fly through the air.[8] He later on effortlessly flung Dean away by merely lifting his hand.[3] God was able to control Eileen into torturing Sam with ease.[9] With a wave of his hands, he flung Sam, Dean and Jack away from him.[10]
    • Teleportation - God could instantly teleport anywhere. He could travel across the multiverse, as he was able to visit Earth-2 on his own without a rift opening ritual. In Moriah, when asked where he's been, Chuck said he's been "everywhere and nowhere, to the edge of the universe and beyond". However, teleporting between universes requires a lot of power; after he was shot with the Equalizer by Sam, the wound greatly weakened him, and he was trapped in the Main Universe until he recovered.
      ChuckDisappearing

      God disappears

      • Apporting - God was able to teleport anyone anywhere he wanted. For instance, he teleported Dean and Sam out of Lucifer's presence, and onto an airplane. God was later able to teleport himself and the Winchesters to the Bunker with a snap of his fingers and the Impala into the Bunker and away from Amara with no apparent effort.[11] Even while dying from Amara's attack, he was still able to teleport the rest of Team Save the World to the Bunker and then send Dean to Amara with just a snap of his fingers.[20] With a wave of his hand, he sent Becky Rosen's family to places unknown.[21] Later on, with a snap of his fingers, he sent several Angels away.[22]
    • Possession - God was able to remotely possess Donatello Redfield who, as a Prophet, is a mouthpiece for the Word of God, both figuratively and literally depending on what God desires.[23]
    • Mental Manipulation - As shown with the alternate future, even with Castiel bearing the mark, God, while trapped in the Mark, was still able to influence the Seraph into going mad.[9]
    • Existence Erasure - God was able to erase beings from existence. After regaining his full powers and destroying the Multiverse, he started making people vanish one at a time before erasing every living thing on Earth in one go.[24] Although God missed Miracle, he caused him to vanish once he realized it from across the street.[10]
Angry Chuck destroys Michael

God obliterates Michael.

    • Molecular Combustion - By extending his hand towards Michael, God was able to cause the archangel to glow from the inside and ultimately explode.[10]
    • Chronokinesis - God was able to travel to an alternate timeline without any effort.[9] He was also able to manipulate time to make the riots caused by the use of Jack's powers to never have happened. God later told Amara that he could control time and space, which helped him to set up his planned ultimate ending where he manipulated the Winchesters into killing each other over whether or not to use Jack as a suicide bomb.[22]
  • Nigh-Omniscience - Existing for eons, God possessed great wisdom and understanding about the universe he made. Death was the only being who could rival God's knowledge of the Universe.[8][25] However, God didn't know everything, as he even did things he himself considered "stupid" and "naïve", and admitted even he couldn't have come up with nacho cheese. He also had to give himself the ability to play guitar and speak French, as he didn't know how to do either one. Most importantly, God also had no idea what was in his death book and Billie stated he could never read it unless she let him. Even when the book had been opened by Betty, God could not read it anymore than the Winchesters could.[10]
    • Universal Awareness - As Metatron said, God could hear and see all.[8] He was able to see visions of the angels and Winchesters. Commenting on his imminent death, he seemed even to know about the trial he passed to grew stronger.[22]
      • Telepathy - He knew what Sam's thoughts would be about Dean being a dick. God was also able to read and identify the source of Sam's defiance as his belief Dean and Castiel will succeed in trapping him.[9]
      • Precognition - God could accurately predict reality to a degree far superior to that of the Archangels, which gave credit to his masquerading as a prophet. He was aware that Lucifer would possess Sam and this decision would be his downfall, something which even Lucifer could not foresee. God was also able to foresee what would become of the world if the Winchesters and Castiel succeeded in locking him away. By using a magical pocket watch, God was able to extend this foresight to Sam so that Sam could see for himself what God had envisioned happening in the future.[9] After being stripped of his powers, God admitted that for the first time he didn't know what was going to come next.[10]
  • Omnipresence - After merging with Amara, God became omnipresent; this became evident when Jack absorbed God's powers (as well as Amara's, who has merged with God), and became omnipresent himself.
  • Immortality - God, as being one of the first entities to exist, was immortal. Age, as well as any disease and weapon, were powerless against him. However, Death stated he could die,[4][26] and Amara managed to fatally wound him where he was about to die after less than a day, before she healed him. Jack could kill God by transforming himself into a bomb that would destroy him.[9]
    • Nigh-Invulnerability - The only confirmed being that could kill God was his sister The Darkness, although Death was able to reap God at the end of time. In addition, God only suffered temporary harm when he was shot with the Equalizer, a weapon that God himself had created. Even then, however, as noted by Castiel, none of the many powerful weapons possessed by Dean could harm him. He took a punch from Dean and Sam in the face with no pain and hardly flinching.[9][10]
    • Regeneration - On the rare occasion he was wounded, God could instantly heal all damage.
      11x23 Brother and Sister together

God and the Darkness restores the balance.

  • Mandatory Existence - God's existence was one of two that provides balance to reality, the other being The Darkness.
  • Master Strategist and Leader - God is an extraordinarily skilled strategist, referred by Lucifer himself as being a master strategist. Upon finally revealing his true colors and going against the Winchesters, God, despite being diminished from Sam's unexpected shot at him, was able to set the path to him regaining his full powers by first allowing Sam to resurrect Eileen to be able to spy on them and then luring Sam and Eileen to a trap and ultimately convincing Sam into losing hope by revealing the dark future that would take place even if they won.[9] He also came up with another intricate plan to make the Winchesters kill each other by setting up Jack's sacrifice, which while ultimately failing was only because Sam realized the true plans of Billie and not because he, Dean or Castiel were able to figure out God's plans, remaining oblivious until the end.[22] However, he was still tricked in the end when the Winchesters and Jack used Michael to trick him. After his defeat, God admitted that he had never seen an ending where he actually lost.[10] It was later revealed that despite believing he would win, Chuck had a fail safe in place in the form of the Akrida to continue his destruction of all things, showing that even with his belief he couldn’t be defeated, he did acknowledge the need for a backup plan.
  • Master Manipulator and Deceiver - God is an extraordinary manipulator and deceiver. Even after he revealed himself as God and despite the Winchesters wariness of his lack of interference, God was nearly successful in getting them to kill Jack, exploiting Dean's vengeful rage over Mary's death to easily get him to take the Equalizer to kill Jack to the point not even Sam was able to dissuade him, and his offer to resurrect Mary if he kills Jack was notably able to tempt Dean for a while despite Sam's truthful accusations of his true motives before ultimately failing and forcing God to kill Jack himself.[3] He confirmed that he messed with events just to manipulate the Winchesters to kill each other over Jack's sacrifice, which nearly succeeded as Dean became so obsessed with killing God that he almost killed Sam and it was only the revelation that everything they had done until that point rendered null should he do so did God's plan finally fail.[22] After the failure of his grand plan, God's manipulations ultimately failed him as he was instead tricked and manipulated by the Winchesters into his own defeat.[10]
  • Hand-to-Hand Combatant - God has shown to be a formidable hand to hand combatant as shown when he landed several hits on Sam and Dean in their final confrontation, while being able to block all of their attacks. It should be noted that Sam and Dean weren't trying their hardest, as they wanted Chuck to beat them in order to charge Jack's power.[10]

Weaknesses[]

After God made the world, he couldn't stop. He wanted more. But he needed to create a perfect harmony -- a Swiss watch so that this world could keep tick-tick-ticking in his absence. He had no choice but to build himself into the framework. It's his only weakness.

Although God was one of the most powerful beings in all of existence, even he had weaknesses of his own and he was not completely omnipotent. For example, he was never able to defeat the Darkness all by himself. Defeating and locking her away was a team effort that required that God and his archangels cooperate to weaken her and a specific spell be performed to imprison her. God does not have the power to open and read the books in Death's library, either, unless Death allowed him to. And finally, when God was shot by The Equalizer, his power was diminished so sharply, he could only do "a few parlor tricks".[16] In this state, he lost two abilities typical of cosmic beings: moving freely between alternate realities and spying in the heavily warded Men of Letters bunker. Although God, in favorable circumstances, could close the wound caused by the Equalizer even in this weakened state, he was prevented from doing so by Sam, who was connected to God by the wound they both had received from the weapon. Sam's hope that victory could be achieved against God precluded the latter from recovering and, to heal, God had to break Sam's will first.

Harming and Trapping[]

What was done to the Darkness can be done to God, if he's as weak as you say.
Chuck wounded

Chuck reveals his wound.

  • Magic (formerly) - In his weakened state, God could be locked away with the same spell he once used to trap the Darkness.[23] God himself expressed fear of the spell, going as far as to threaten the Winchesters into giving up, and openly admitted it would work on him in his weakened state, which was further shown by how in the alternate future God showed to Sam, Sam, Dean and Cass successfully locked him away with Castiel bearing the Mark. However, once God was at his full power, he was able to harmlessly destroy the spell.
  • The Equalizer - The Equalizer was designed to send a wave of multidimensional energy across a perfectly balanced quantum link that could harm even God. A shot to the shoulder, for instance, weakened him significantly, and it wasn't until he made his shooter, Sam, lose all hope that he was able to heal himself and return to full power. It is unknown if the Equalizer could kill God.
  • Archangels - Amara noted that just like when she was locked away by God with his four Archangels weakening her, God could be harmed and weakened by the combined might of the four Archangels, which would allow him to be sealed away just like he sealed her away.
  • His own power - God's vulnerability to the the Equalizer showed that he was also susceptible to his own power and could make things capable of causing harm to himself. A further hint at that fact came from the series of rituals that Jack completed in the effort to defeat God. The final ingredient in the ritual was nothing less than a rib from the body of the first man, Adam, which was so imbued with God's power that, in combination with Jack's human soul and angelic grace, it resulted into a bomb that would be capable of killing both God and the Darkness.

Killing[]

Even God can die.
Sam: What about Jack? He's in God's book?
Billie: And so are you. I told you Dean -- you and your brother have work to do. This is your destiny. You are the messengers of God's destruction.
Billie reveals some of the details about God's ultimate demise as predicted by Death's books
in Galaxy Brain

Despite his immense power, God could still be killed although it was difficult and very nearly impossible to do. Like everyone else, God has a book that displays the means by which he can be killed.[27] It also changes to depict God's ending depending on the situation, displaying a new outcome if God's previous method of destruction fails to come to fruition.[24]

AmaraVsGod

Amara overpowers God.

  • Death (possibly) - Death told Dean in Two Minutes to Midnight that he would eventually going to reap God, but the meaning of this is left not entirely clear, as Billie said she was going to do the same in Alpha and Omega, albeit after he was already dying. It is shown in Meet the New Boss that Dean took his words as proof that Death can kill God (which is why he invoked Death to fight Castiel when he acted as God to begin with). Death, however, asked Dean "What makes you think I could do that?"
  • The Darkness - Being his twin sister and stronger than him in power, Amara was able to defeat God. She described herself as being more powerful than him, and God admitted he and his archangels "barely" managed to lock her away.[26] God believed that were he to surrender to her, she would trap him, rather than kill him, and Lucifer stated that Amara may very well defeat him.[1] When she was released, God decided to hide in one of his constructs, so he'd be safe from her. While mildly weakened, Amara overpowered God when he tried to use the Mark of Cain to re-imprison her, and then fatally wounded him by piercing his being with tendrils of darkness.[1] Amara caused such damage that only she herself could heal it with not even the Book of the Damned being of any use. She has also shown the ability to negate God's ability to teleport, but only for a limited amount of time as God would eventually be able to break free.[22]
    • Mandatory Existence Compromised - If the Darkness were to be killed, the imbalance would also result in the death of God due to the destruction of reality itself. The only way to avoid this is to kill both God and Amara. It is only after being drained of his powers and rendered mortal, Chuck's existence is no longer tied with Amara's.[20][27]
  • Jack Kline - Although God was able to easily kill Jack, it was later revealed that Jack had the potential to kill God if he followed a plan Billie gave Jack when she resurrected him.[28] Billie later revealed that Chuck's Death Book in Death's Reading Room revealed that Jack was the one who would ultimately kill God. Jack later explained that Billie's spells were turning him into a bomb, or something like a "metaphysical supernova" that would collapse into a living black hole for divine energy from which even God and the Darkness couldn't escape, but would also kill him in the process.[27][22] Jack later exploded inside the Empty away from God and when Jack survived the explosion, he was turned into sort of a power vacuum.[24] After absorbing enough power he regained his Nephilim abilities and became unstoppable, immune to God’s attempts to smite him and was capable of stripping God of his power, making him powerless and mortal.[10]
  • Mortality - After being drained of his powers, Chuck was rendered completely mortal. As a result, he will grow old, get sick, and die as a normal human would.[10]
