Forums: Index The Impala My Status

FTWinchester recommended to me to open a forum to discuss my stance on here, what the community thinks of me, in particular some may not know what happened on Discord and to ask if there's any other chance, after failing on the Discord.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss my current and future status on the wiki.--Gabriel417 (talk) 16:26, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

What happened on Discord? Doctor49 【︎Talk Contributions】︎ 17:15, 30 July 2022 (UTC)

I have a pretty high opinion of you and I don't really remember what you did on Discord either. But you took responsibility and your punishment like a man and gave up your admin rights and you were on track to be a bureaucrat with Dominic. Zane T 69 (talk) 16:39, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

I have no clue what happened on Discord. If someone could elucidate, that would be much appreciated. If it's something that Gabriel already took punishment for, I think he can be given a second chance. The wiki needs more active admins right now. FTWinchester (talk) 17:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

Comment - I have a weak memory on the events, I think I wasn't fully following the decision rule on the server, it was based on votes (getting a majority to agree on something) and the staff team was on odds with each other and divided into factions (not against me, but in general there were factions and it was messed up, that it even got bad for Dominic). As far as I remember the greatest mistake being of not immediately taking my punishment of getting demoted, which I later on did by giving up all of my positions and becoming a regular user. Nowadays thinking about my errors makes me focus on avoiding to let something like this happen again.--Gabriel417 (talk) 20:49, 31 July 2022 (UTC)

I'll look at my talk page later and review the situation but I encourage you to reapply for admin rights. I wish I could just give you the rights but I'm bound by bureaucracy and rules. We can even work on uniting the team on Discord or ending those factions if they're still a problem. Zane T 69 (talk) 02:59, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Comment - The rules are in place for a reason, which is why there are procedures for certain things on the wiki, I know that. Doing something on Discord's impossible, the team abandoned Dom and quit working together with him, Corey did fix the damage by ensuring that the connection to the wiki and server is loosened, the server is basically independent from the wiki staff, but the internal team problem in the server can't be fixed by any of us, because they won't listen to anything we say. They have to fix it by themselves, it existed even when Dominic was the server owner. There are staff members in the staff team that don't belong there, because the only seek power and try ignore other team members, that affected me too, when my mental health was worse, in a way the problem was reduced by decentralizing the structure of the team.--Gabriel417 (talk) 10:17, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Comment - as I recall that's partially why I wasn't keen on joining discord. Same reason why I'm against when reddit mods want to use discord. Use of a third part/external service from the actual content you moderate will always have problems that you can't control. It's not wise. If much of the votes or actions against you and Dominic were from people who aren't actually part of the wiki, I strongly believe they should have little influence on how we actually run things within the wiki itself. FTWinchester (talk) 11:19, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

That's not fully true, the Discord server for r/Lucifer is a total success, it really depends on who you pick and how they act.--Gabriel417 (talk) 13:23, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

We should just remove our link to the Discord and rebuild one under our control or toss it aside entirely. We could be presumed liable for things that happen in there and we built it and should control it in the first place. Wiki members only as people with user rights in the Discord to ensure its tied to us or ensure no none wiki members gets the user rights level there to contest our wikis influence in it. It's harsh but we're only responsible for the wiki and its users and our inclusiveness and kindness has clearly been abused.

In fact, FTW, if you know how to remove our link to the Discord go ahead. I'll write up a disclaimer for wiki members who are already attached to it that waves any liability we could be accused of having... after all, we have no idea what they could be exposed too in there. Zane T 69 (talk) 16:10, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

The server Dominic created was deleted after the Discord team quitted and Corey reconnected it with the wiki again, so that the community doesn't get split, but it's not the way it was before, wiki staff are below the server staff and there's only one channel for the wiki on the server, basically the old management was replaced and doesn't have any power there. I guess it can be removed.--Gabriel417 (talk) 16:56, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

I crudely removed the Discord display, not sure how to do a complete clean-up. I hope you get more RFA support though. Zane T 69 (talk) 18:09, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
