In The Rising Son losing his soul, Donatello was knocked off by the waves of power emitted by Jack when he was looking up condos. He tracks down the trails of power hoping to find God.
  +
  +
However, he encounters Sam and Dean who attack him, thinking he was a monster until they see it's him and Donatello asks if God was with them. He relays his tale and realizes that the source of power was not God, as he is surprised to find out the power that he felt was that of the young Nephilim Jack who he was amazed to actually meet. Upon learning his identity and status as Lucifer's son, he remarks that he met the Archangel but Jack's presence is nothing like Lucifer's, not toxic and dark.

After Jack was tricked by the Prince of Hell, he and the Winchesters track down Jack's trail, as they spot Asmodeus (disguised as Donatello) using Jack to open a rift to Hell in order to release the Shedim. Asmodeus restrains and starts to choke them but he was opposed by Jack and forced to flee upon seeing the Nephilim's anger, which saves Donatello and the Winchesters.

In Devil's Bargain, Donatello is later called upon by the Winchesters to read a demon tablet to access the spell to open a rift to the Apocalypse World to save Jack and Mary Winchester. Donatello then gets tricked by Asmodeus, disguised as Castiel, into revealing information about what the plan is. Once Asmodeus reveals himself, he freezes Donatello and uses Mind Control so Donatello will report to him should anything notable happen.

After he translated the Demon tablet, Donatello found himself corrupted from the effects of the tablet itself, due to not having his soul. Castiel claimed the soul acted as a filter against the corrupting effects of the Demon tablet. He turned hostile and would not give the spell's final ingredients to the Winchesters willingly. Castiel, in an act of desperation, tells Donatello that he will pry the final ingredients out of Donatello's head as Donatello worries over the repercussions for both of them but Castiel goes through with it.

In Byzantium, after Sam calls in Lily Sunder to help go through Kevin Tran's Angel Tablet translations, Dean points out that Kevin had translated it into "crazy scribble that only a Prophet can read" and they can't ask Donatello to read it for them. Sam explains that that was why he had called in Lily who, due to her use of Enochian magic, was the closest thing they had to a Prophet in the absence of Donatello.

In Prophet and Loss, Donatello's status of being between life and death caused the creation of a premature and malformed new Prophet, Tony Alvarez, who killed two people and attempted to kill a third before killing himself. As a result, the Winchesters decide to take Donatello off of life support until it is discovered that he is spouting the Word of God. Castiel realizes that Donatello's mind is trying to pull itself back together and as a result, he is no longer beyond help. Castiel searches through Donatello's mind and manages to awaken him. As a test, Dean turns off Donatello's life support and he remains alive.

After Donatello is taken off of the ventilator, he is confused as to where he is. Soon Dean and Castiel feed him some jello and Donatello requests buffalo wings. Donatello shows no memory of his actions while corrupted by the Demon Tablet and Dean leaves Castiel to fill him in.

In Peace of Mind, worried about Jack's possible soullessness, Dean takes him to see Donatello who Dean calls their expert in a lack of soul. Donatello and Jack discuss soullessness in general with Donatello describing himself like a galaxy: bring and shiny on the outside, but with a large black hole on the inside. Donatello tells Jack about the emptiness he feels, the lack of pity, emotion and humanity that comes with it. Jack admits that he doesn't feel nothing, but he also doesn't feel the same. Donatello tells Jack how when he wants to blend in, Donatello thinks "what would Mr. Rogers do?" as Mr. Rogers is the best man he knows. After Jack tells him that Sam and Dean are the best men he knows, Donatello suggests that Jack think "what would the Winchesters do?" when he is unsure of himself.
  +
  +
When Donatello leads Jack back to the Impala, Dean asks if Jack still has a soul. Donatello brings up the philosophical nature of the question before admitting that while Jack's "been around," if he says he's okay, Jack probably is. When Dean asks if Jack is like Donatello, Donatello states that Jack definitely is not because Donatello is a Prophet while Jack is probably the most powerful being in the universe and its impossible to know what is going on in his head.

  +
In Game Night, Donatello is kidnapped by Nick who is later found at Donatello's house and captured by the Winchesters. Nick shows them a video feed of Donatello on his phone and claims that he injected Donatello with thallium which only gives Donatello a day to live if they can't find him and give Donatello the cure. Jack eventually forces Nick to lead them to Donatello who Dean heads in to rescue while Sam remains behind with Nick.

While Dean is gone, Jack realizes that the syringe Donatello was injected with actually contained angel grace. Sam confronts Nick who reveals that he used the angel grace to boost Donatello's Prophet abilities so that Nick could communicate with Lucifer in the Empty. Through Donatello, Lucifer gave Nick instructions on how to resurrect him which required Jack's blood. Nick severely injures Sam and escapes to resurrect Lucifer.

At the same time, Dean locates Donatello only to be attacked by two demons working with Nick. Dean manages to subdue one and kill the other before rushing to find the badly injured Sam. As Dean calls Mary, Donatello is on the phone in the background, presumably with 911, while watching Dean, but the two are left worried as they were told that it will take twenty minutes for an ambulance to arrive. As Sam grows weaker, Donatello watches as Dean tries to comfort his brother before Jack arrives and heals Sam. Jack assures the three that he had stopped Nick and Mary is fine before returning to the cabin Nick was using for her.

In Our Father, Who Aren't in Heaven, Dean sends Castiel to get a reluctant Donatello due to Dean's theory that the Demon Tablet might help them figure out a weakness for God. After the Winchesters and Castiel explain the situation, Donatello reluctantly begins translating the tablet, but asks that if it drives him insane once again that they just kill him this time. Donatello eventually finds out that the Scribe of God, Metatron, put annotated notes into the tablet, as if in an attempt to explain God's reasoning for his actions. One of these notes reveals that God has a secret fear that he only shares with his favorite. As the group realize that this most likely means Michael, God takes control of Donatello remotely, explaining that as a Prophet, Donatello is literally a mouthpiece for God's word. God uses Donatello to threaten to destroy everyone they love if they don't stop before letting Donatello go again. Worried about what God might hear through Donatello again, Dean sends Donatello home for the time being. After briefly pretending to be reluctant, Donatello eagerly takes off.
  +
  +
After returning from Hell having learned that Michael escaped from Lucifer's Cage, Dean calls Donatello and asks if he sensed any angelic bursts of power in an attempt to find Michael. However, Donatello hasn't sensed anything. Later, when Michael kills Lilith, Donatello senses the burst of power and is so startled he drops and breaks a glass in the sink that he was washing. Donatello calls Dean and, now able to sense Michael, excitedly reports as the archangel jumps all over the globe before settling in Cairo, Egypt.

Donatello Redfield is a chemistry professor who became a Prophet. He was originally an atheist before becoming a prophet of God. Due to the Darkness, Donatello was left without a soul though he remains a Prophet.

Sometime later, Donatello met the Winchesters again after Jack was born and met the newly born Nephilim. Later, Donatello was called on by the brothers to help in creating a rift to Apocalypse World, but was placed under the control of Asmodeus. He became corrupted by the power of the Demon Tablet due to the lack of his soul and was rendered brain dead by Castiel while extracting the needed spell from his mind. Donatello's mind slowly started to repair itself, though his state created a malformed Prophet and was risking to create a line of such.

After discovering his state, Castiel repaired the damage he did to Donatello and he was brought back to normal. Donatello, no longer corrupted though still soulless, resumed his work as a Prophet.

History

Season 11

Donatello becomes a Prophet

Donatello becomes a Prophet.

In All in the Family a fog sent by Amara strikes his hometown, Donatello gets struck by a lightning bolt and becomes the sole survivor of the town. Dean and Sam come to speak with him at the police station and discover that he is a prophet, since he claims to have visions of the Darkness.

The Winchesters decide to bring Donatello to the Bunker, informing him of everything as he is shocked. Once at the bunker, Donatello meets God, much to his disbelief, and he also meets Metatron, who introduces himself as the Scribe of God.

Using his ability to see visions and sense The Darkness, Donatello joins the rescue mission for Lucifer since he knows where Amara is keeping him. Once Lucifer is freed of his bounds, Donatello, Sam and Lucifer rush back into the Impala and drive off, but are confronted by Amara on the road.

All in the Family 04

Donatello meets God.

Amara attempts to destroy all three, until suddenly, the Impala and its occupants find themselves inside the Bunker, to which Donatello exclaims "WHAT, HAPPENED!?".

Exiting the vehicle, the three are greeted by God, who reveals that he had answered a prayer, and was therefore the one who transported them back home. With Lucifer safe and sound, Donatello bids the brothers farewell, but will keep his ears open if they need him again.

Amara consumes Donatello's soul

Amara consumes Donatello's soul.

In We Happy Few, three days later, Donatello gets attacked by Amara inside his house, who is in need of the whereabouts of God. Donatello refuses to tell her, so Amara absorbs his soul into her being, enabling her to know where the Men of Letters bunker is.

Donatello survives Amara's attack, but is left soulless. With no moral compass, Donatello decides to go by the motto "what would Mr. Rogers do?"

Season 13

In The Rising Son losing his soul, Donatello was knocked off by the waves of power emitted by Jack when he was looking up condos. He tracks down the trails of power hoping to find God.

However, he encounters Sam and Dean who attack him, thinking he was a monster until they see it's him and Donatello asks if God was with them. Donatello with the Demon Tablet

Good Intentions 07

Having lost his mind, Donatello is restrained

After he translated the Demon tablet, Donatello found himself corrupted from the effects of the tablet itself, due to not having his soul. Castiel claimed the soul acted as a filter against the corrupting effects of the Demon tablet. He turned hostile and would not give the spell's final ingredients to the Winchesters willingly. Castiel, in an act of desperation, tells Donatello that he will pry the final ingredients out of Donatello's head as Donatello worries over the repercussions for both of them but Castiel goes through with it.

Donatello Braindead

Donatello is left brain dead.

This act leaves Donatello brain dead, hooked up to machines that now keep him alive. Even though Castiel felt somewhat guilty, he revealed he also learned Donatello was working for Asmodeus, though not willingly.

Season 14

In Byzantium, after Sam calls in Lily Sunder to help go through Kevin Tran's Angel Tablet translations, Dean points out that Kevin had translated it into "crazy scribble that only a Prophet can read" and they can't ask Donatello to read it for them. Sam explains that that was why he had called in Lily who, due to her use of Enochian magic, was the closest thing they had to a Prophet in the absence of Donatello.

Donatello shows no memory of his actions while corrupted by the Demon Tablet and Dean leaves Castiel to fill him in.

Peace of Mind 01

Donatello talks with Jack on his condition

In Peace of Mind, worried about Jack's possible soullessness, Dean takes him to see Donatello who Dean calls their expert in a lack of soul. Donatello tells Jack about the emptiness he feels, the lack of pity, emotion and humanity that comes with it. Jack admits that he doesn't feel nothing, but he also doesn't feel the same. In Absence, after learning that Jack has no soul and likely killed their mother, Dean recalls what Donatello had said to him about it being impossible to truly know if Jack was alright. Dean realizes that it was a warning he didn't heed.

Season 15

Powers and Abilities

As a Prophet, Donatello developed special abilities. These special abilities led to a scar on the upper right side of his head. Despite losing his soul, Donatello retained at least some of his Prophet abilities.

 • Localization - Donatello was able to sense Amara's presence and when she was coming. He describes it as a 'ping' in his cerebral cortex. He was also able to sense the birth of Jack, discover his location and tell that it was Jack he was sensing while in the same room with him. Donatello was able to use this ability to track down Jack. After sensing Michael killing Lilith, Donatello was able to track the archangel's movements as he teleported all over the globe.
 • Super Senses - Just standing in front of Jack, Donatello could feel the intense "waves of power" coming off of him. He could also tell that Jack's power was not dark or toxic. He was able to sense the presence of Asmodeus and that he was not an angel when Asmodeus was in proximity to Jack who he was tracking. After Michael killed Lilith, Donatello sensed the burst of angelic power, startling him into dropping a glass.
 • Visions - After getting struck by Amara's fog, Donatello received visions of Amara and several events including the release of the Darkness and Kevin Tran repairing the Demon Tablet years earlier.
 • Multi-language - Like Kevin, Donatello could speak and read ancient languages such as Enochian even without learning it.
 • Word of God translating - Like Kevin, Donatello could read the Demon Tablet. However, for Donatello it appeared to be harder to do.
 • Spell Casting (in corrupted state) - While in a corrupted state, Donatello learned some annoying and potentially harmful spells from the tablet. The extent of his mastery varied from a simple spell to suffocate a person, to a spell that could potentially incinerate an angel. He presumably lost this ability after returning to normal.
 • Connection to Tony Alvarez (while comatose) - Due to the nature of his creation as a Prophet, Tony had a connection to the comatose Donatello and heard Donatello's mutterings as he attempted to rebuild his mind which Tony believed to be God speaking to him.
 • Angelic Mouthpiece (while injected with angel grace) - After being injected with angel grace by Nick, Donatello's Prophet abilities were boosted to the point that he was able to act as a mouthpiece for Lucifer to communicate with Nick from the Empty.
 • Mouthpiece for God - Due to his status as a Prophet, which is literally a mouthpiece for the Word of God, Donatello can be taken over by God himself as a method of communication.
