Dexter O'Connell was a convict employed at the Van Ness mansion and was, coincidentally, killed by Whitman Van Ness, in a way disguised to look like a suicide, after Whitman had framed him for several murders. His spirit remained trapped in the house, along with numerous other ghosts, by Whitman's powerful spirit.
