Caleb Dashwood is a sorcerer who was trapped in the form of a doll.
History[]
A 19th century sorcerer, Caleb was condemned for practicing what the church saw as Satanic rituals, although Caleb believed that they came from God, not Lucifer, and he wasn't actually a Satanist. Caleb tried to reveal that Monsignor Theodore had children by four different young women of the parish, but no one believed him. Caleb was burned at the stake, but rather than his soul descending into Hell, he was cursed into a doll made by a Bahamian housekeeper of the monsignor's who evidently also practiced the dark arts.
Trapped for decades, Caleb went insane and became a vengeful spirit haunting people through the doll. Caleb's doll went to the Bahamas and eventually to the Americas where he found himself in the thrall of a small child in Key West. Now known as Raymond, Caleb pulled a number of pranks that were all blamed on the boy. The boy eventually grew up and went insane under Caleb's influence and died, after which Caleb was left in the small room that the boy had built for him which became a tourist attraction for being haunted.
In 2008, two demons cast a spell that supercharged all of the spirits of Key West. Animated by the spell, Caleb killed teenagers Angela and Johnathan and then attacked hunters Sam and Dean Winchester when they came to investigate. Sam managed to destroy the doll in a flash of black light with a shotgun blast which the Winchesters hoped was enough to put the spirit to rest.
However, Caleb evidently was not put to rest when his doll form was destroyed. His spirit was one of the ghosts of Key West who were merged into Dean to give him the power to destroy the Last Calusa during which time Dean learned Caleb's true name and history. When the Last Calusa manipulated Dean's emotions during the battle, Caleb's terror at being condemned by the church combined with the despair of several other spirits and Dean's own despair to nearly overwhelm him. After Sam salted and burned the bones of some of the spirits making up the Last Calusa, Caleb whispered to him that it would weaken the evil spirit so that Dean could destroy it. Dean then drew on all of the spiritual energy of the ghosts of Key West to finally destroy the Last Calusa. Afterwards, the spell ended, and the ghosts were released from Dean's body.
