So do you have it? The book. Hand over the book. Wow. Slower than they look. (...) Okay. The end of God is in the special book. And if you give Betty the book, Betty can read it. Understand?
— Betty to Sam and Dean
in Inherit the Earth

Betty was a reaper who, for a short time, became the new Death.

Lucifer killing Betty when she is a Reaper

A resurrected Lucifer visits the Men of Letters bunker, claiming that the Shadow brought him back to help the Winchesters and Jack to kill God. Stating that he had anticipated some push back, Lucifer claims to have brought a token of good faith and with a snap of his fingers, a chained and gagged Betty is teleported into the middle of the room. Lucifer introduces the confused Winchesters to Betty, ordering the visibly annoyed Betty to introduce herself. Lucifer explains that Betty is a Reaper, but the Winchesters don't understand the point of this so Lucifer makes his point by killing Betty with an angel blade.

Dean angrily chides Lucifer, but the archangel explains that Betty is the first Reaper to die since Billie and counts down for several seconds before Betty suddenly revives. Lucifer introduces Betty as the new Death and she stares intently at Dean who comes over to help her. However, after Dean removes her gag, Betty headbutts Dean away and with a jerk of her arms, breaks free of her chains. Betty manifests her new scythe and ring. Lucifer compliments Betty's scythe and ring and she asks for Sam and Dean to hand over Chuck's Death Book. When the Winchesters fail to react, Betty explains that the end of God is in the book and if they give it to Betty, she can read it for them. The Winchesters lead Betty to the archives room where the book sits on a table, but Betty locks them out in order to read the book alone.

Betty's death as Death

As Michael and Lucifer argue, Betty returns with the book, stating that she has opened it and all that they want is inside. As a result, Betty knows how God dies. Sam asks if Betty is sure and she states that she is, reminding them that she's Death, but Dean points out that Betty has only been Death for an hour. Ignoring Dean's comment, Betty begins to read the ending of Chuck's Death Book out loud to the assembled group. Suddenly, Lucifer snaps his fingers, turning Betty to ash which crumbles to the floor. Pulling the open book to him with telekinesis, Lucifer reveals that it was God who had resurrected him in order to get the book which the archangel had been using Betty to open for him. Michael kills Lucifer with the archangel blade, leaving the book open. However, Sam and Dean discover that it is still unreadable even after Betty had opened the book as only Death can read it.
