Baron Samedi depicted in a book.

He was at the Elysian Fields Hotel, along with at least eight other deities from different cultures to talk about the Apocalypse and how to avert it, appearing as a well-dressed African-American male.

He and Zao Shen seemed to make up the brawn of the meeting; they were both used to detain the Winchester brothers and were later entrusted with safeguarding the conference room.

When Lucifer showed up in the hotel, Baron and other deities tried to fight him, but were subsequently slaughtered. Baron appeared to have survived the longest againt the archangel, even throwing a punch at him before the latter caught his fist and ripped him to pieces off-screen.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Super Strength - Being a deity, he would have had superhuman strength. He was unafraid when going against Lucifer, a being that he knew was very strong, suggesting that he believed himself to be stronger than the latter and certainly stronger than humans. This arrogance, however, led to his death.
  • Immortality - As a pagan deity, he did not age and could potentially live forever.
  • Invulnerability - As a pagan deity, he could not be killed by conventional methods, but he could be killed by higher beings.
  • Necromancy (likely) - Baron is depicted, in the lore illustrations, reigning over the cemetery, implying he has some sort of necromantic powers.
  • Shapeshifting (limited) - Like many deities, Baron also seems to have a true face, appearing as a skull head in books artworks.

Trivia[]

  • His name, translated from the French, means Baron Saturday.
  • Contrary to popular belief, Voodoo is a monotheistic religion, only worshiping one deity named Bondye. Baron Samedi is a Loa, a race of spirits originally created by Bondye to serve him, not dissimilar to God and his Angels.
  • According to National Geographic, there are approximately 60,000,000 people across the world who practice voodoo today, which, had it been the case in the Supernatural Universe, would have allowed Baron to retain his great power from ancient times. While the fact that Baron lasted the longest against the archangel Lucifer does suggest that he was considerably stronger than other deities, the ease with which Lucifer killed him suggests that he was still much weaker than the archangel. Whether this was because Lucifer was one of the older and stronger archangels or because voodoo has less followers in the Supernatural Universe (which would mean that Baron did in fact lose some power in modern times) is unclear.
