The Angelic Exorcism is a rare type of exorcism that so far only the white eyed demon Alastair has shown knowledge of. He nearly sent Castiel back to heaven.
Overview
It works exactly like a demonic Exorcism and Angel banishing sigil but it is implied that its effects are much more potent, as an Angel Banishing Sigil only banishes an angel far away from its initial location on Earth and the angel remains in his or her vessel, whereas the exorcism ejects the angel from its vessel and banishes it back to Heaven.
Considering that Alastair considered banishing an angel to Heaven as an alternative to killing them off ("I really wish I knew how to kill you, when all I can do is send you back to Heaven."), it is likely that the angel would be unable to return to Earth immediately, if at all.
The verses used in the spell are in Latin:
- Omnipotentis Dei potestatem invoco
- Omnipotentis Dei potestatem invoco
- Ab orbe terra
- Hunc angelum omne obsequendum
- Domine expuet
- Domine expuet
- Ut deum ad empyreum remittat
English Translation:
- "I invoke the almighty power of God
- I invoke the almighty power of God
- From over the Earth
- This Angel obeys all [His orders]
- The Lord has expelled him
- The Lord has expelled him
- And in the same way, God sends him back to Empyrean."
In an earlier episode, Alastair also employed another Latin incantation against Castiel. The effect of the enchantment is not known, for, like the angelic exorcism, it was stopped before Alastair could finish it, and unlike exorcism, Alastair did not describe which effect he expected it to have on Castiel. Many believe, however, that it was also an angelic exorcism. The translation of the spell suggests that Alastair was invoking the power of hell to strengthen his, whereas in the confirmed case of angelic exorcism he was invoking the power of God:
- Potestas inferna, me confirma.
- Potestas inferna, me confirma.
- Potestas inferma, me confirma!
English translation:
- "Powers of hell, strengthen me up.
- Powers of hell, strengthen me up.
- Powers of hell, strengthen me up!"
