An angel trap is a sigil trap and a means to trap an angel besides holy fire.
It first appeared in Meta Fiction. Like another trapping methods, angel can't escape once inside the trap, but, unlike holy fire, angels trapped by this can't use their powers.
Like its counterpart Devil's Trap, it appears that no matter how powerful the demon, an Angel Trap still effects them. From an ordinary angel to higher-ranked angel like Gadreel to even an archangel like Lucifer.
Season 9
The Angel trap firstly seen in Meta Fiction and used by Sam and Dean to trap Gadreel was a circle, with four old enochian runes in each direction
Season 11
Angel trap appears once again in O Brother, Where Art Thou? as one of many ingredients to safely summon and hold Lucifer. Although it can be used to hold an archangel like him, it proved not so effective to suppressed his power for long time.
This angel trap was made by Rowena. It consisted with several old Enochian runes and arranged in square.
Trivia
- Although this method more easier to be performed and more effective than the holy fire, however its very rarely used for combating angels.
