Everything that's happening! All of this! Its your fault! So this? You've had this coming for a long time... Maybe everyone else has forgotten about the bad you've done, but I haven't! I have watched you kill people, Crowley, innocent people! People I cared about! People I loved! So yeah, you have the accent and the suit and the snark but at the end of it, you are a monster! Just like all the rest of them. And I'm gonna watch you die, screaming, just like all the rest of them.

The Ambush of Crowley was an ambush of the King of Hell Crowley by hunter Sam Winchester in an attempt to kill Crowley as part of a deal with the witch Rowena MacLeod.

Background[]

After getting the Book of the Damned, hunter Sam Winchester makes a deal with witch Rowena MacLeod to remove the Mark of Cain from his brother's arm. In return, Rowena demands that Sam kill Crowley, the King of Hell and her son, a deal that Sam agrees to. Though Sam imprisons Rowena after getting Nadia's Codex for her, Sam states his intention to keep up his end of the deal once Rowena keeps up hers.[1][2]

After Charlie Bradbury finds a way to decode Nadia's Codex and through it the Book of the Damned,[3] Rowena demands that Sam kill Crowley before she removes the Mark of Cain from Dean. Rowena uses the fact that Dean is a walking time-bomb and the fact that Sam needs her help to cast the spell to force him to agree to kill Crowley and to do it her way.[4]

Battle[]

As Crowley visits the diner where Oskar works, Sam calls him and plays a recording of Dean asking for help. Sam then hangs up and texts Crowley to meet him at the address 11979 Cedar Street, Concordia, Kansas.

At the abandoned factory the address leads to, Crowley calls out for Dean. As Crowley looks for Dean, Sam, hidden inside a nearby stairwell, shoots Crowley with a devil's trap bullet, binding Crowley's powers and effectively incapacitating him. Sam emerges from hiding and explains that its a devil's trap bullet, causing Crowley to call Sam shooting him from behind "poor form, even for you." Sam reveals that Dean isn't there and drawing the demon-killing knife plays Crowley the recording he used to trick him.

Crowley questions whether or not Dean knows what Sam is doing since Crowley and Dean are "such close friends now." Sam angrily reminds Crowley that he's the reason that Dean has the Mark of Cain. Sam angrily states that Crowley is the reason for everything that is happening and that he's had it coming for a long time. Looking at the demon-killing knife, Crowley wonders if Sam really thinks he's frightened of it, but Sam tells Crowley that he doesn't care.

Drawing a hex bag from his pocket, Sam places it in Crowley's jacket pocket, surprising Crowley at Sam's actions. "By the way, she said to tell you: she should've taken the three pigs." Crowley realizes that Rowena is behind Sam's actions as the Defigere Et Depurgare spell begins to take hold of him, bringing Crowley to the ground in agony as the spell starts to destroy Crowley with Sam watching.

Awhile later, lying on the ground in pain, Crowley states that he thought Sam was the smart one and asks if Sam is insane because he is working with Rowena and if Sam actually trusts her. Sam admits that he doesn't, not even a little, leading to Crowley questioning why Sam is helping her and what Rowena has over him. "Will you just die already?" asks Sam, annoyed by the fact that it is taking so long for Crowley to die of the spell.

Spitting out a bit of blood, Crowley comments that "that's what I get for trying to be the good guy," gaining an incredulous response from Sam at the idea of Crowley being the good guy. Crowley demands to know if Sam knows what Crowley has been up to for the past year and the changes Crowley has made to Hell, but Sam makes it clear that he is unimpressed. "I thought if I did... better, I might actually feel something again. That it might matter."

As Crowley continues coughing up blood, Sam states that what Crowley has done doesn't matter. "Maybe everyone else has forgotten about the bad you've done, but I haven't! I have watched you kill people Crowley, innocent people! People I cared about! People I loved! So yeah, you have the accent and the suit and the snark but at the end of it, you are a monster! Just like all the rest of them." Sam intends to watch Crowley die screaming "just like all the rest of them."

"Your right: I am a monster. And I've done bad. I've done things you can't even imagine. Horrible, evil, messy things." Crowley acknowledges, his eyes turning red. "And I've loved every damn minute." The entire time Crowley has been laying on the floor, he has been clutching his side where Sam shot him in apparent pain. Crowley suddenly pulls his fingers out of where he has been discreetly digging in his wound, yanking out Sam's devil's trap bullet and restoring Crowley's powers and mobility. Crowley stands up and tells Sam "thank you Sam for reminding me who I really am."

As Sam moves towards Crowley, Crowley telekinetically flings Sam through a window. His eyes returning to normal, Crowley pulls the hex bag from his pocket and moves towards where Sam is crawling towards where the demon-killing knife has landed. "Powerful magic. It might've worked on any other demon but me? Please." Crowley incinerates the hex bag and spots Sam reaching towards the demon-killing knife. Before Sam can grasp it, Crowley telekinetically flings the knife away from Sam.

Approaching Sam, Crowley tells him "I could kill you. Snap my fingers. Easiest thing in the world. From here on, I want you to know that the only reason you're alive is because I allowed it. And I want you to deliver a message: you tell that ginger whore that I gave her a chance to walk away and she spat in my face. So now, she'll never see me coming." Crowley then teleports away, leaving Sam alone in the abandoned factory.[4]

Aftermath[]

After failing to kill Crowley, Sam calls Rowena to inform her of his failure. Rowena is enraged that Crowley is not dead and demands that Sam continue trying to kill Crowley.[4] Finally, after Sam threatens her with witch-killing bullets, Rowena relents and agrees to remove the Mark of Cain from Dean in exchange for her freedom instead.[5]

Following Rowena's attempt to kill him, Crowley begins trying to kill Rowena in retaliation, sending an assassin in a failed attempt to kill her at one point.[6] In order to help entice Rowena into helping them contact Lucifer, Crowley offers to call off his assassins[7] which he does as Crowley is no longer after Rowena following her apparent death.[8]
